We spent Saturday on Cloud 9 performing B’Opera’s’s new piece of children’s first opera-theatre, Fluffball the Flighty Cloud, with little ones and their families at CoCoMAD. Thank you Arts Council England, @OpusArtsEvents and Friends of Cotteridge Park for making it possible.
Also had the opportunity to listen to an array of fascinating sessions about social innovation, the history of @bhamchildtrust, social work and much much more. So impressive to hear the level of thinking and connecting up of different disciplines. #bcuintweek24@BCUSocialWork
Buzzing with excitement from a fantastic international conference in the Faculty of Health Education and Life Sciences at Birmingham City University @mybcu where I presented on The Importance of Singing With Babies and Toddlers. #BCUIntweek24@BCUSocialWork@BCU_CYC
B’Opera is 7 today. Happy birthday to us. I guess this makes us still FOR babies but not a baby any more. 📷 Zoë taking a break from talking about B’Opera and listening to fascinating speakers at a baby opera symposium in Italy today thanks to @reseonetwork
Please give if you can. Making music with these poorly babies, who can be in hospital for long periods of time, makes the most enormous difference. As one mother said “It puts hope in our hearts.” https://t.co/65hOt3uZei
Midsummer Magic 8th June 10.30-12 - please share with any babies you know! A magical, summery relaxed concert with B'Opera for children age 0-5 and their families. Older siblings welcome.
Followed by playtime & refreshments. https://t.co/25BvoEwLxp
1) Alice spent #internationalwomensday singing with children at @DevonshireInf in Smethwick. We loved hearing how the story and the music impacted them - one staff member told us that a boy with SEN who never sits longer than a moment, sat calmly through the whole performance.
@DrLizStafford I can’t find much literature on this, but at Birmingham Children’s Hospital we are seeing newborns clearly react to different musical textures. For example, turning their head in the direction of the last remaining unison voice when we’ve been singing in harmony.
@BOpera brought us bucketloads of awe and wonder today. An in school theatre show, based around the story of a library tree. The performers sang opera to us and performed a tale of saving libraries from closure, as books are so important. Purely magical @DevonshireInf
3) That’s 360 young children introduced to the wonder of opera today and encouraged through storytelling to think about how to raise their own voice and have their own agency to advocate for libraries and arts.
