The BPC joins the community in mourning the passing of Commissioner Ella Scarborough.
Commissioner Scarborough was many things including, a child of Sumter, South Carolina; civil rights activist; trail blazer; leader; inspiration; friend to many; and of utmost importance mother.
#Juneteenth is a day to reflect on both bondage and freedom — a day of both pain and purpose. It is, in equal measure, a remembrance of both the long, hard night of slavery and subjugation, as well as an acknowlegment of the promise of a brighter morning to come. #BPCstronger
While this represents many activities; it only represents a microcosm of her endeavors.
Commissioner Scarborough will undoubtedly leave a void in the BPC, community & in her family. However, the BPC is committed to continuing her life’s work and legacy. #BPCstronger

If confirmed, she will be the first Black woman to serve on the nation’s highest court. #BlackHistoryMonth#BPCstronger
I’m proud to announce that I am nominating Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the Supreme Court. Currently serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, she is one of our nation’s brightest legal minds and will be an exceptional Justice.
