In Year 1, we have been learning about the importance of reducing, re-using and recycling. We found out why we should ‘Think before we throw!’ and we discovered why we shouldn’t waste our waste. We also re-used our rubbish and turned it into useful items and toys.
We have had a very exciting couple of weeks full of butterflies and caterpillars! In writing we have written caterpillars fact files, in computing we have made digital art front covers for our fact files and in art we have made beautiful butterfly collages!
In computing this term the children are learning to use a keyboard, mouse and open/ close documents on a PC. They have been using a game called dance mat typing (level 1). Have a go at home! https://t.co/5QRIv6FT2N
Take a moment to chat with a grandparent or someone from an older generation about the toys they used to play with when they were a child. On 25/4/24, we'll be delving into these conversations in class, discussing the differences and similarities between old and new toys.
Happy Easter everyone! 🐣
Have a lovely break.
For those asking for information from the phonics meeting, the PowerPoint we shared, will be emailed out.
Thank you!
Tomorrow - Wednesday 27th March at 3.30pm in the KS2 hall there will be a Year 1 parent meeting about the Year 1 Phonics Screening Test.
Come through the external double doors to the KS2 hall, next to the office entrance.
In Maths, we have been adding different coins together. In Netherlands class, the children decided to use their chosen resources to help them count! What independent mathematicians 🤩 #BillingshurstMaths
What an amazing Science week we have had in France class. We have watched raisins dance, ooblek ooze, water walk and lava lamps fizz and bubble. We carried out our egg drop and we even managed a welly walk in sunshine!
Thank you for joining us this afternoon! We have enjoyed Science week ALOT. We've seen dancing raisins, lava lamps, slime, walking water and egg drops (successfully and not so!) What a wonderful opportunity for children to observe the wonders of the world! #billingshurstscience
BIG thanks to @BPSCA_! We have been enjoying our BRAND NEW outdoor area! We have been finding letters in the sand, using our fine and gross motor skills for Lego and bricks, sorting the animals into groups and putting on puppet shoes in our willow book nook. We love it so much!
We have been learning about materials such as plastic, wood, glass, rock, fabric and metal. Today we played a game called ‘Odd one out’. Look at the baskets of objects and ask your child what they thought was the odd one out. Do you agree or do you have a different reason?
This week we have been learning to represent teen numbers with Base 10. First we used 10 cubes to make 1 ten but joining the cubes wasn’t ideal. Then we used Base 10 and we could represent teen numbers quickly and correctly.
We have been reading Goldilocks and the 3 bears! Today we made and tasted porridge so we know the order of how to make it. Now we can write instructions! We even learnt what verbs are (action words) like pour, mix, stir and heat. #BillingshurstEnglish
