The Department of Tourism (DOT) has officially named SB19 as the Philippines’ newest Tourism Ambassadors, tapping the P-Pop supergroup to help promote the country to audiences around the world.
The announcement came after days of online speculation sparked by the DOT’s cryptic social media posts, including five goat emojis and the delivery of a special “Galingbayan” care package to the group before the start of their U.S. and Japan tour.
Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said SB19’s global popularity and influence make the group ideal ambassadors for Philippine tourism.
“SB19’s talent is undeniable—their music is powerful, and so is their influence,” she said, noting that the group’s fanbase spans the United States, Europe, ASEAN, and other parts of the world. She added that many overseas Filipinos and international fans have already been traveling to the Philippines to watch the group perform.
SB19 member Josh Cullen welcomed the appointment, saying the group has long hoped to work on a project that promotes the country.
“Matagal na po itong moment na ito na inaantay namin. We want to make a genuine difference,” he said. “By taking our music to established international markets, we can connect with the global Filipino diaspora, share our culture, and give them that feeling of home.”
As Tourism Ambassadors, SB19 will work with the DOT on campaigns encouraging fans from around the world to visit the Philippines and experience its culture and destinations firsthand.
The appointment comes as SB19 prepares for a string of historic international appearances. On July 29, the group will become the first Filipino act to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a Major League Baseball game before the Chicago White Sox-New York Yankees matchup. A day later, they will make history again as the first Filipino act to perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago.
The group is also set to perform at Summer Sonic 2026 in Osaka and Tokyo this August alongside fellow Filipino acts, including BINI, which was also recently named a DOT Tourism Ambassador.
The DOT said more joint tourism initiatives featuring SB19 will be announced in the coming months under its “Love the Philippines” campaign.
