Almost all NFL stadiums have been paid for in part by taxpayers. This deal isn’t all that unique. It looks like public funding will make up about 33-40% of the funding. It also looks like Soldier Field had about 66.4% public funding for construction and renovation. Most of the taxes will be tourism taxes and local taxes, on things like hotels, food and beverage, tickets at the new stadium. It isn’t like taxpayers across Indiana will have to carry this massive burden. It’ll also probably generate a ton of money for northwest Indiana. There’s a reason Maryland, Virginia, and DC were fighting so hard to have the new Commanders stadium
Sometimes. It’s the same reason people love the videos of guys getting called up. I’m no betting man, but there’s a good chance I’m never going to hit an MLB game winning home run. So it’s fun to hear, in their own words, what’s going through their mind right after the fact.
Also, I don’t know where you’ve been, but players get asked about bad moments all the time. It was what, one month ago? When Coby Mayo had the fielding error to lose against the Marlins and was asked about it in the post game interview. And I think that’s important too. Also saw this a lot with the Ravens the past two years. It’s been a massive storyline that when we’re losing, all the young players refuse to talk to the media. That it’s only guys like Henry who will stick around to answer questions. It can tell you a lot about a guy’s personality.
@meltzer_ben@afkostka@JakeDRill@ByMattWeyrich It sounds like this is going to be a new concept to you, but sometimes, different things are interesting to different people. So something that isn’t interesting to you, might be interesting to someone else
@WindyCityBearss@DLSearcy07@DeAndreHopkins Decent chance they never leave Illinois. Honestly I don’t get why it’s a huge deal if they do. I’m not familiar with the area, but it seems like it really isn’t that far
Their playoff matchups weren’t easy because of the defenses they were playing. They faced the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 9 defenses in the league. They were like, 1, 3, 4, and 6 against the pass and 2, 3, 4, and 8 against the run. They lucked out with Nix missing the championship, but that didn’t change the defense Maye had to face. He wasn’t great, but his playoff performance beats the hell out of Caleb’s
@PatMcAfeeShow@DraftKings Skenes has 6+ SO’s in 8 of his 12 starts. Ohtani in 7 of his 9. That puts the odds tonight at about 51.85%. Not exactly a slam dunk
@RickyDaHennyGod@BrutalAsBucs@thesamberman I’m also not saying Maye is the best or that Williams sucks. I just think coming off last year, it’s really hard to justify Caleb as the Madden cover athlete. I also don’t think I would’ve picked Maye. This is all just in response to that earlier post
I agree they had an easy schedule. I think their playoff schedule was a joke. It’s also the 13th highest passer rating all time. The only other names above him are Brees, Peyton Manning, Rodgers, Lamar, Mahomes, Brady, Tannehill, and Foles. There are teams every year with cakewalk schedules. And there are QBs on stacked teams every year. But not many guys put up numbers like that
@BrutalAsBucs@thesamberman Maybe, but his number is also blow Caleb Williams’ out of the water. You can’t just say no one can be on the madden cover if they have a good team around them
@CJFFB__@thesamberman He was 6th in scrimmage yards and tied for 3rd in TDs. But the biggest difference is that it was a fan vote. If Madden had a vote for the cover this year and Caleb won, I bet there wouldn’t be anywhere near this much criticism. But just off merit, it’s a pretty wild pick
@MySportsUpdate@newheightshow Caleb finished last season as an 85. So a big 5 point boost going into the year. Also, random fact, Peyton Hillis, who most people consider the most random, least deserving cover athlete (won a fan vote to be on the cover) was a 91 in Madden that season
@JdubOwnsYouLol@EAMaddenNFL@CALEBcsw@ChicagoBears Yeah my bad. Good catch. Mahomes, however, did win MVP, AP1, and OPoY. And had 5,097 Yds and 50 Passing TDs. Which is ABSURD. Like, at the time, the 7th most yards in a season (11th now) and still tied for second most TDs in a season. Ever
@_Justin_Sports@EAMaddenNFL@CALEBcsw@ChicagoBears The other tweet I almost went with instead is:
There’s a very real chance that 20 years from now, Caleb Williams is right there with Peyton Hillis as the most forgettable Madden covers of all time
He’s going into his third season, he’s 25 years old, he plays one of the three premium positions, he’s a 2x pro bowler, and one year removed from DRoY. His sack numbers could be a little better, but he’s only played two years. Among edges, he’s near the top of the list in tackles and FFs over the past two seasons. He would definitely have gone for two firsts or a first and a strong starting caliber player on his own. Young, talented, decorated players at premium positions are rarely traded in the NFL this early into their careers. A 1st and Verse is 100% more valuable than two 1sts and probably more valuable than three 1sts.
