Miriam Rodríguez’s 20-year-old daughter, Karen, was kidnapped in 2012 by members of the cartel. After the ransom was paid and Karen was never returned, police failed to make arrests, so Rodríguez hunted down 10 people tied to the cartel herself until they were either killed or sent to prison.

In 2012, Miriam Rodríguez’s life was shattered when her 20-year-old daughter, Karen, was kidnapped in Tamaulipas, Mexico. A ransom was paid, but Karen was never released. When police investigations stalled and no arrests were made, Rodríguez made a decision that few would dare. She began investigating the crime herself.

Disguising her appearance, using false names, and posing as a voter, health worker, or relative, she tracked down those responsible. She gathered addresses, photographed suspects, and mapped cartel connections. Over several years, her work led directly to 10 people being arrested, prosecuted, or k*lled during confrontations with authorities. She handed evidence to prosecutors, forcing cases forward that had long been ignored.

Rodríguez became a founding member of a victims’ rights group and publicly challenged corruption and cartel impunity. Her actions came at a cost. She received repeated death threats and was placed under limited police protection. In 2017, she was assassinated outside her home, a k*lling widely believed to be retaliation for her investigations.

Her legacy remains powerful.

Before her death, Rodríguez helped locate dozens of clandestine graves, bringing closure to families who had spent years searching for missing loved ones.

It’s now official: Trump has pardoned one of the world’s most notorious drug traffickers. Former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández was convicted of drug trafficking last year in the U.S. and sentenced to 45 years in prison. He conspired to traffic 400 tons of cocaine into the country and was “at the center of one of the largest and most violent drug-trafficking conspiracies in the world.” He even said his goal was to “shove the drugs right up the noses of the gringos.” Now, thanks to Trump, he is a free man.
