Cardinal Fernando Chomali, archbishop of Santiago, Chile, offered a 10-point guide to understanding the central message of Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIVʼs first encyclical, presented May 25.…
1. The human person lies at the center of all technological progress.
2. The great challenge of our time is not technical but human and spiritual.
3. Artificial intelligence must be placed at the service of the common good.
4. Human dignity does not depend on productivity or capabilities.
5. Fragility is not a defect that must be eliminated.
6. No artificial intelligence can replace human experience.
7. Truth is a common good that must be protected.
8. Human work cannot be subjected to the logic of machines.
9. Freedom is threatened by new, invisible forms of control.
10. Peace and the civilization of love constitute the true alternative to technological power.
Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical, Magnificent Humanity, released on May 25, is drawing attention for its focus on artificial intelligence. At the document’s release, the Pope said the encyclical was the result of listening to scientists, educators, and political leaders. In it, he calls for the “disarmament” of artificial intelligence in order to build a more just future. Matthew Bunson, vice president and editorial director of EWTN News, joins to discuss what Catholics can do in response to Pope Leo’s call:

Artificial intelligences do not undergo experiences, do not possess a body, do not feel joy or pain, do not mature through relationships, and do not know from within what love, work, friendship or responsibility mean. Nor do they have a moral conscience, since they do not judge good and evil, grasp the ultimate meaning of situations, or bear responsibility for consequences. They may imitate or even simulate, but they do not understand what they produce, for they lack the affective, relational, and spiritual perspective through which human beings grow in wisdom. #MagnificaHumanitas
Two weeks to the World Cup and @KBCChannel1 hasn’t bought Free-To-Air rights, as per the Daily Nation.
Most people in this country can't afford Pay TV or internet bundles so they'll not be able to watch the tournament.
The rights are worth about KSh194m for 1/3 of the 104 games.
