Plant knowledge becoming more popular! Cambridge University botanic garden @CUBotanicgarden joins UK others offering short courses plant vocabulary and ID. See also @BSBIbotany Identiplant (enrols December), Plantlife @Love_plants, Field Studies Council @FieldStudiesC#BUC2026
Sometimes when we are botanising we can forget to look up! Which would be a shame as #treeflowers are both fascinating & beautiful! This week’s challenge is to go looking for wild & naturalised trees that are blooming. Share your finds for #WildflowerHour this Sunday 8-9pm!
It's Sunday, it's 8pm so it must be #WildFlowerHour! Please share pix of any wild or naturalised plants you saw in bloom last week across Britain & Ireland inc any #storyplants.

Salix alba, white willow, along #ThamesPath for #wildflowerhour#StoryPlants
Willow bark contains salicin, a painkiller when chewed or boiled in water, also wound-cleaner and gargle for sore throats. Cricket bat willow is hybrid of white and crack willow @TiCLme@BSBIbotany
Lots now for #Wildflowerhour. Celandine, including some interesting bronze leaved variants, dogs mercury, pulmonaria, red dead nettle, green alkanet, goat willow, alexanders
I'd hoped to find wood anemones in the woods yesterday (I didn't!), but I was rewarded instead by hundreds of sweet white violets-viola odorata-just in time for this week's #WhiteFlowers challenge for #wildflowerhour
The naturalised hybrid bluebells have overtaken the native ones and are now in full flower in Chacewater Cornwall today. Blue and pink flowered plants next to each other.

Hyacinthoides x massartiana
#WhiteFlowers are beautiful so I’m glad this was the #Wildflowerhour challenge.
The little Barren Strawberry has lovely heart shaped petals 🤍 and despite being bedraggled by the recent winds, the Feverfew flower still resolutely looked to the sun.
#WhiteFlowers for #WildflowerHour
Something about white flowers draws the eye.
Perhaps because they appear so simply — a pale star in the hedgebank, a quiet flicker in the woodland.
You notice them almost before you realise you are looking.
And suddenly spring is everywhere.
The green pendant flowers of Redcurrant, flowering by a wooded path in Chacewater Cornwall today. I also saw a few Gooseberry bushes, but they're not in flower yet (beware the spines on those). #wildflowerhour
Ribes rubrum
Appearing naturalised, but it's hard to tell sometimes, a Flowering Currant bush next to a streamside path in Chacewater Cornwall today. #wildflowerhour
Ribes sanguineum
I’m hoping the cream flowers of Climbing Corydalis, Ceratocapnos claviculata won’t be too far off theme for this week’s #WhiteFlowers challenge for #wildflowerhour
