@GhostofFenway@jimsoxfan 2 games of a team that was a shell of themselves due to injury. Starters were good. Bullpen got hit a bit. But silly to draw up 2 games to this conclusion
@GhostofFenway@jimsoxfan #1 in bullpen era and one of the best rotations in baseball without a top 5 pitcher in the game. So this is a really bad look for you
What’s funny is that about a week ago I was hardly seeing anyone complain about the Tracy and Breslow extensions.
Then they limp into Yankee Stadium, face two of the best pitchers in baseball, get their ass kicked for two games, and now suddenly the organizational dysfunction and rot discourse resurfaces and all that other StatsSlop
There’s nothing that happened against the Yankees that we didn’t already know. They weren’t good enough elite pitching. The bridge to Chapman and Whitlock had fallen apart. They didnt have anyone to truly go pitch for pitch with Fried and Schlittler
There’s plenty of blame to go around, whether it be to the injury gods or Duran self-destructing or the various hitters who faded down the stretch. But to jump to “this organization is dyfunctional!” or “see! They were never good!” is just lazy
In order
Maybe slightly, but analytics is a fancy word for information that helps you make better decisions
It seems that way. Higher bat speeds and force have created problems big problems for Roman and Casas. We’ve seen stress injuries from Marcelo and IKF too
For the Sonny Gray argument, if he gives it up, the question is asked why we didn’t go to bullpen when we had best bullpen in the league and carrying such a full pitching staff. The 3rd time through stat exists the same way yankee stadium splits exist for Gray. Going to Miller who had a rough September and got tagged the night before is a better question imo. Emotional reactions based on the result last night but we shouldn’t be having a pitching convo when the offense wasn’t giving you anything anyways
No, but he had no choice. Was out his two best position players from last year and had very limited depth. Unlucky and Consequence of having to play 107 pace baseball for 3 months
“Fans” are overly emotional, can’t see cause and effect, get tunnel vision, and dramatize single occurrences. Only one team can win and for everyone else it’s a disappointment
Now that the series is over, holy smokes did the Red Sox get screwed by the hand of God through the 2nd half this season after July.
What we saw these last two days is a significant downgrade over having:
Game 1: Crochett
Under a lineup with Roman, Curtis Mead, healthy Contreras, Mickey or Yoshida/Romy platooning at DH instead of...whatever we saw tonight...., Rafaela was injured, list just went on and on and on. They got a fantastic team that I respect a lot. I think Craig built a 93-94+ win team this season that got blasted by injuries.
A team of:
Roman OF
Rafaela OF
Wilyer OF
Willson 1B
Mead 2B
Durbin 3B
Story SS
Romy/Yoshida DH
Adley C
Crochett
Tolle
Gray
Suarez
Bennett
Easily wins 93-94+ and it's insane to me fans are ripping Breslow instead of just acknowledging how shitty of a situation it was for the Sox at the end of the year.
The Yanks dealt with a FAIR share of impactful injuries. Obviously missing the best player, Stanton, Fried/Cole/Rodon/Weathers/Schmidt all for their own independent long stretches without play, a month without Belli, no Grish for a bit, etc.... And I think it says a lot that despite that, this team persevered to where they're at now. Plenty of underperformances to go around and plenty of weak spots in the lineup to fix in the offseason, but the pitching despite the injuries was unlike what we've seen before.
In a just world, the Yankees and the Red Sox meet in the ALCS in the future with fully healthy clubs at full strength.
@KayserSooyze@DanBFox1287 He’s had two injuries. One that seemed mismanaged by the team and he’s been playing through it since he’s been back. Injuries happen we don’t need to make it more than it is
It is concerning and unfortunate. But I think it’s unfair to characterize this at 3 injuries. I think oblique last year. Then the hand is separate and it’s been a consistent theme. Injured initially, potentially botched rehab, then Tracy said it had flared up even since it’s been back and another reaggrevation. He’s been trying to play through and injury which unfortunately happen in sports sometimes. People saying he’s soft cus it’s a hand seem to be forgetting that this game is requires a lot from your hands
