Been a long day folks. And a tough, really tough day for Democracy. I am disappointed and angry - but not surprised - by today’s SCOTUS decision that effectively kills the Voting Rights Act. Here’s my full statement:

On March 7, 1965, my friend and hero, John Lewis, led 600 foot soldiers across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma. It was a peaceful protest for voting rights, but state troopers brutally attacked them as they crossed that bridge. John was one of the many seriously injured that day. The country saw what happened in Selma, and later that year, the Voting Rights Act became law. Today, the Voting Rights Act is hanging on by a thread, and a Supreme Court decision later this year could end it. I often quote John in his fierce advocacy for voting because we must never forget what happened in Selma. With voting rights under attack these days we must recommit to the fight for that sacred right to vote, and most importantly, we must all vote. I will be in Selma this weekend to retrace the steps of those brave foot soldiers, and I hope you will join me at the Edmund Pettus Bridge at 12pm CDT on Sunday.
From @TheAthletic: Players from the U.S. women’s Olympic hockey team addressed the backlash the men’s team faced for laughing at President Trump’s joke that he’d be impeached if he didn’t invite them to the White House.

@PressSec For those wondering, 20 U.S.C. § 76i states that the building is "designated as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts." § 76k lists the powers of the Board: soliciting gifts, hiring employees, and proposing plans for sidewalks. Nothing about, or close, to renaming.
