In Black August, we celebrate and honor Black freedom fighters. Today, we will reflect on the legacy of Denise Oliver-Velez, a political activist, community organizer, and a member of the Young Lords and the Black Panther Party.

August is also the birth month of many revolutionaries, including Fred Hampton, Marcus Garvey Opal Tempti, James Baldwin, Denise Oliver-Velez, and many more. As we approach a new month filled with uncertainty and Black resistance, let us appreciate and honor the strength and-
