@cormeetsworld @VersaceBoxing From what I remember, Mikey Garcia vacated the belt and Campbell was the mandatory challenger. Rather than order Campbell vs. #2 WBC silver champ Abdullaev or #3 Haney, they approved Lomachenko vs. Campbell for the title. Loma at the time was a unified champ.

The WBC has issued similar rulings in the past.

Years back, the WBC ordered their light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson to fight WBO champion Sergey Kovalev. And they ordered their featherweight champion Gary Russell to face WBA champion Leo Santa Cruz. Neither contest came off as intended.

In 2019, Lomachenko vs. Luke Campbell was sanctioned for the vacant WBC title. At the time, Lomachenko was the champion of WBO and WBA.

@bluntwrestling @chegscott209 What I meant to say, I felt the entire interview appeared staged. Reeno inserts Kabayel, who happens to be right there. Then Turki interjects to push a Rico rematch and looks like a hero to some. But ultimately Turki issues a statement that Usyk-Kabayel is the target.

@bluntwrestling @chegscott209 Not likely. Via Coppinger, Turki just released a statement which cements the target of Usyk vs. Kabayel next, but now in Germany instead of Istanbul. The post-interview was planned out, with Kabayel in the ring with Spencer Brown at the start. Rico rematch would follow that.
