Alberta Independence is a wonderful sentiment - a people rebelling against their faraway masters in favour of local rule. However, as a country the challenges are just too great; the lack of a coast is harsh. Joining the USA, where states have real power, is best.
So it’s not just Guilbeault.
Another Carney Minister saying he opposes pipelines:
“We’re not talking about oil pipelines when we talk about energy corridors”
This is the typical “loser mindset” of the Canadian intellectual sphere. Without the boat-anchor of Canada and its foolish policies and priorities, Alberta could be EVEN BETTER than it already is. For Canadians, good enough is always good enough.
You mean Alberta has had higher than average revenue capacity, based on higher than average per capita GDP — much higher, in fact the highest in the country — that whole time? What a tragedy! What an outrage!
BAIT AND SWITCH! Carney said he’ll build pipelines during the campaign. Now his Quebec chief says that was all a clever deception to get elected. NO MORE PIPELINES is the true intention of the Carney Government.
And here we go! Guilbeault in his first media scrum comes out against new pipelines claiming TMX is only at 40% capacity, oil demand will peak and "no developer who's interested in building an east west pipeline at this time"
Doesn't mention that developers are uninterested because of his environmental policies and legislation
Carney says one thing in English... Guilbeault says the opposite in both English and French! @s_guilbeault@MarkJCarney@ABDanielleSmith
Alberta’s Raw Deal from Canada:
- Unfairly low representation in House and Senate relative to population
- Significant violations of provincial jurisdiction
- Outward hostility to the principal industry (oil & gas)
- Seizing Alberta wealth for distribution to Quebec / Atlantic
Canadians are Defeatist. Albertans are Bold Optimists! As the 51st State, Alberta will be in union with its #1 trade partner, the USA (three quarters of its exports go there). All with the significant control that each state has. California is left wing, Texas is right wing.
Meanwhile, Alberta’s legitimate grievances—high per-capita federal taxes with less per-capita federal spending—get less traction, as they challenge the status quo of Canadian fiscal federalism.
Eastern newspaper opinion writers often frame Equalization debates in terms of tax rates—emphasizing that Albertans pay the same federal rates as others—to downplay the program’s redistributive effects and maintain a narrative of national fairness. 1/
This framing may reflect editorial biases, regional interests, or a desire to avoid inflaming Western alienation. Eastern media hubs, closer to federal power and beneficiary provinces, prioritize narratives that justify Equalization as a unifying policy rather than a subsidy.
Attempting an Independent country for Alberta does pose some practical challenges - the required “negotiation” with Canada is destined to be unfair. All such problems disappear if Alberta decides to join the USA. That path cannot be stopped by any mechanism. It is practical.
We appreciate Danielle Smith’s attempt to improve Alberta’s positioning within Canada. But a quick glance at the Toronto newspapers, dripping in condescension, reveals that the “Canada option” is not viable. Arrogant Canadians cannot be relied on to be good partners.
Central Canada is in love 💕 with its new dreamboat Mark Carney. He’s super into woke and climate change. Spent a bit of time building pipelines in other countries but he and his wife decided they would MUCH rather grift off of taxpayers so he’s back. Enjoy Canada - we’re out!
Trudeau now says it would be great to eliminate interprovincial trade barriers. Yet he and his central Canada supporters did zero in a decade to do this. Hopeless, errant Canada.
US States have PLENTY of power to run their affairs as they see fit. And unlike Canada the country is successful in every industry with limitless opportunity. The time is now to seize the opportunity to jettison Canadian failure and realize our potential as part of the USA! 🇺🇸
