"Teaching is like bowling. Don't aim for the middle pins(kids). Change your aim (teaching) to hit the harder to knock down pins." ❤️But how can we make teaching like bumper bowling? What would be educational "bumpers" so all teachers can be successful? #WIWOW1819@tweetsomemoore
Fun times using small Slinkies in class to model seismic waves. Watching 8th graders lose their mind when I bring out my extra long Slinky is always fun. Note to self, if a class is going crazy, pull out the big Slinky to mesmerize and calm them! 👨🏻🏫🤣
In PLC we are discussing an important question: how in the heck did teachers survive before Teachers Pay Teachers? :) If I was smart, I'd get some of my stuff on there and make some $$$. Just found a close reading intro text for earthquakes. BOOM.
Recently learned about the formative strategy, "My favorite no". I tried a version of it today and the kids really took to it! Students chose their favorite "no"(wrong answer), state 1 good thing about it, and re-write it so it's correct. Great discussions!
One of our awesome math teachers at Fox River is teaching about surface area. The kids are tin foiling the room to measure surface area! I wonder if it will help them...reflect...on their math skills!
As we wrapped up a unit today, I gave kids the option to show their understanding. The were to choose either the traditional quiz or if they were extra fancy and brave, they could explain their understanding on @Flipgrid A lot took the bait and did Flipgrid! Love it!
I love using the live earthquake map from @USGS as a way to spark interest in our new unit of plate tectonics, earthquakes and volcanoes! Many of my 8th graders were shocked at the number of smaller quakes every day. https://t.co/fpQOrqshix
