Thank you Matthew. It was an important milestone for Bitcoin and I appreciate you covering this. There were several folks hashing and trying to signal, Barefoot just happened to be the first. We are honored to have mined the first BIP-110 signaling block and the first Ocean block back in 2023. We are blessed.

There has been a lot of interest in the first BIP-110 signaling block produced by @barefootmining earlier today. Some of you might enjoy knowing that it was mined at one of our "wild horse" sites. It's an off-grid site powered directly from a stranded natural gas well. I certainly have nothing against grid-based mining but I find it somewhat poetic that this block was produced in the wild. To me this type of site fully embodies the spirit of Bitcoin.

90 minutes ago, @BarefootMining found block #938903.

As part of constructing and mining their own block using DATUM, they also signaled readiness for activation of a soft fork.

They did this entirely independently of their pool.

OCEAN is designed such that miners can perform the full spectrum of mining, and actually take a direct role in coordinating network upgrades. That includes constructing their own block templates and deciding when, and whether, to signal.

OCEAN restores agency to miners.

OCEAN takes that one step further by reducing the pool’s role even more. Through DATUM, miners construct their own templates and embed their own signal directly in the blocks they mine. Further still - any blocks they find get broadcast directly to the network without needing to pass through a middle man.

Fork proposals are part of Bitcoin’s maturation. We encourage miners to study BIP-110, form their own view, and signal accordingly.
