@japan_nobunaga It varies state to state. There are Federal laws that must be followed but each State can enact laws that can vary greatly. Some States have so many barriers in place that owning or carrying a firearm is just about impossible for the average person.

@japan_nobunaga @mage_leader For me it is. As a young man my friend's father included me in his range trips with his son. He always provided the facility, guns, & ammo (which can get expensive). Whenever I offered to pay for the ammo he just told me to take somebody shooting when I was older....so I do.

@MedicTroll @Zack_magaig If you have a waiting period where you live, that's a state law. The Federal background check system is called NICS (National INSTANT Check System). At the Fed level once you pass that check you are authorized to own the gun...some states have extra requirements.
