Welcome to the @_BTO in County Down, a resource for volunteers, surveys and events, run by regional rep Kez Armstrong.
Looking forward to talking about birds and monitoring, as well as the organisations and clubs in Co.Down.
At @_BTO we support and grow an army of citizen scientists to evaluate success & failure towards #NaturePositive. Enabling learning by doing from long term national monitoring of the state of our nature
September may be my favourite month of the year. It’s merely days until #WeBS surveys start again!
Interested in gaining experience in survey & seeing what’s in your local area? Have a look at our available in-land & coastal sites for a patch near you! https://t.co/9dC18qaLYY

In case you missed it, don’t forget to catch up on tonight’s @BBCSpringwatch to see the important work on #ManxShearwaters from NI’s only Bird Observatory in Co.Down!
BBS is in full swing! This is a great survey if you have a good knowledge of the sight and sound of our birds, so do get in touch via our website if you would like to take part and maybe be greeted with wonderful views like this!
Record numbers of Scoters being reported by Andy off the Co.Down Coast stretching from Murlough and Ballykinlar Bay - a whopping 2738! These amazing birds breed in the Arctic and are usually seen in dense flocks through winter. @BTO_NIreland
The South Down coast is teeming with amazing birdlife and there are several patches on this beautiful stretch of coastline still available for Autumn #WeBS counts. Thanks to one of our wonderful WeBS counters Patricia for these fantastic shots.
Kestrels are starting to return to their nesting sites and will be more visible as the month goes on before settling down into incubation mode. Using #Birdtrack to track your sightings allows research to continue on their distribution. Filmed in Co.Down by @BTO_Antrim
Always looking for new recruits for this fantastic survey. About an hour, once a month, through Autumn/ Winter and you never know what might turn up on your patch!
