@JHickelmeyer @Bellagiotime I got into tiny whoop drones last year. I can't fly RC line-of-sight well, but FPV with goggles feels intuitive. Being able to fly inside, and crash into your own face with no real consequences is nice too. I've got a big finger-chopper drone frame I've been meaning to assemble.

@JHickelmeyer There's also the decision whether to sand down the bumps or not. Like on the katana handles, the Japanese used to stingray hide in armor too.

@JHickelmeyer Nice! I personally have the sweatiest hands ever, so gloss CF is bad for grip for me, but it lasts so much longer than porous fabric.

@JHickelmeyer Pretty much, yeah, and you can shave off a lot of the 'leather' material off the backside, leaving a pretty thin, but strong calcified dot layer. In all the projects I've seen, people put traditional cowhide backing on them.

@JHickelmeyer Tbh, doing it in the car was the real challenge. Lots of yoga/contortionist poses to get into those weird nooks and crannies.

@JHickelmeyer I was watching videos earlier, it's calcium deposits on the surface of the stingray's skin. Like bones, or shell. It looks like heavy scissors handle it, though some woodworking chisels do a better job.

@JHickelmeyer Right now, I'm starting with some vinyl scraps, then I have some pieces of my buddy's old couch, and finally, if I do ok with that, I ordered a section of stingray hide. My biggest stitchwork project to date was throwing an alcantara cover on my steering wheel, thread n needle.

@JHickelmeyer I love that it only takes a small tackle box full of stuff to work on watches. I remember watching a tour of a Swiss watch factory, and they all had sit/stand desks, raised up to chin level. Makes a lot of sense.

@financedystop I don't get paid enough to become emotionally embroiled with my job. Day to day operations are virtually inconsequential to my life, so long as the work gets done. If the job disappears, I can find a new one. Millions do it every year.
