Being Trauma Informed is about making the science of trauma accessible to all, it's about a way of being that goes beyond a set of skills, to who we are.
It was an amazing week at @NOVAVictims annual conference. From meeting amazing trainers, advocates, and survivors, to having the opportunity to fill in for the closing keynote and giving a talk on trauma informed supervision, it couldn’t have been better. Hope to see you in 2024!
Another amazing day at #NOVA49 - made wonderful connections with the folks at @MrBallenFnd, learned about the powerful work being done by @IA_Advocacy, and met more survivors and advocates than I could count. What an honor to be with all of you. See you tomorrow!
It was also such a pleasure to meet and chat with award winning @Timothy_M_Jones and trainer Hali, who I'm told gave a powerful talk with her SVC today at the conference. Amazing group of people. Thank you for making me feel welcome!
One of the highlights of #NOVA49 today was seeing/meeting many of the folks on the @10_makers team. Gave @ObbieWest a big hug, finally met Eric, and late in the day had a wonderful conversation with Rashan and met Nicole @girlsfightback and Dr. Guyton @DrVanessaGuyto1. WOW!!
Met so many wonderful people today at #NOVA49. First thing this AM, had the pleasure of speaking with @UTNationalGuard SAPRO Andrew Kalinen. Literally everyone you meet is doing important work that changes the lives of victims/survivors!
What an amazing day at the @NOVAVictims conference today. So many conversations with so many people who are doing amazing work. Even gave out about a dozen water bottles! #NOVA49
Are you headed to #NOVA49 this year? We'll be there with a booth this year, and will be giving a talk on Thursday morning on trauma informed supervision. Let's connect! Big thanks to @NOVAVictims for squeezing us in to an incredible line up of workshops!
Busy week! Oregon coast on Monday to train folks working with houseless individuals, online on Tuesday to train AUSAs and now in Virginia to train for the Army JAG school. This is how it's meant to be!
After years of talking about it, writing on The Four Steps to Apology has finally begun! Also doing some really fun research and realizing that while many have lists of what makes a good apology, our fourth step (and the way we discuss the others) seems unique. Very exciting!
In the spirit of honoring historical trauma, can we please rename the concept known as "servant leadership?" It's such a wonderful concept and such a horrible name. How about "collaborative leadership?" Thoughts? Ideas?
@genpatient@nctsn@jedfoundation@care_informed@aafp 2 of 2 In an effort to understand "why" the apt was rushed, folks with trauma histories most often fill in the blanks using negativity bias - it's just the brain doing what the brain does! @genpatient@nctsn@jedfoundation@care_informed@aafp 1 of 2 There are 2 bits of science for docs to learn from your tweet: rushing through an apt threatens status, which raises anxiety because our brains interpret threat to status with the same system we use to deal with physical threat. It's not a choice - it just happens. And...
Two week vacation to recharge the batteries worked well! Getting into nature is always a good thing isn't it? What are you doing to recharge your batteries?
@MJBowerman Hi Matthew - been on vacation for the past two weeks and wasn't checking twitter! I'd love to have a longer conversation with you about your work. Feel free to email me through the website https://t.co/AWEnehhYWy - I look forward to hearing from you.
Episode 002 "Talking About Triggers" is now live! Check it out on our website (link in the tweet) or options like the Apple Podcast App, Spotify, Amazon Music, and Stitcher. Thank you to @BekahSpeaksOut and Dr. Laura Milner for being our guests! https://t.co/7fok7fKwMr
It's domestic violence awareness month and we wish people were aware of the fact that most domestic violence is about threat to status, not physical violence! It sensitizes our brains and fundamentally alters the way we experience the world.

@supernova7 The conference content is based on submissions from professionals in the field. Until NOVA announce which proposals have been accepted, none of us will know what will be discussed in each workshop/breakout session.
Is anyone else already looking forward to @NOVAVictims 2023 Conference in New Orleans? You can bet we’ll be there. If you know where to find gluten free beignets, let us know!!!
