This Day in History: English novelist H.G. Wells was born in 1866 in Bromley, Kent. Wells was hostile to the Victorian social and moral orders of his day, and in 1903 he joined the Fabian Society, only to resign 4 years later after it failed to infiltrate mainstream ideologies.
