Welcome to a New Month: A Few Lessons on Growth, Integrity, and Survival
As we walk into this new month, I wanted to share a few quiet observations on life, work, and career.
Give Things Time
Whatever you are doing right now, give it time to grow. I know time feels short and the pressure from the current economy makes everyone want to chase the biggest, fastest options. Pivoting and diversifying are important, but don't let impatience ruin your foundation. Rushing to claim success before you are ready will only cost you time and send you back to square one.
Don't Mistake "Playing Smart" for Wisdom
In business and work, don't try to outsmart everyone in every deal. Cutting corners or engaging in petty theft might feel like you're winning in the moment, but it always backfires. Down the road, you won't even be able to account for what you used that extra money for, but the damage to your job, your peace of mind, and your personality will remain.
Protect Your Name
Always leave a clean record and a good reputation wherever you work. A good name in an organization will speak for you long after you are gone.
Pick Your Battles and Build Relationships
Respect and relate well with people across every generation—younger or older. Let those who like you outnumber those who don't. At work, learn when to be silent. Don't always be the first person to point out every fault or force high standards onto an organization that isn't making an effort to improve. You might think you're helping, but it often backfires and puts your job on the line.
In summary: Protect your peace, build genuine respect, and above all, hold on to a good name. It is your most valuable asset.
