England's smallest city offers culture, history & stunning scenery. Our 15th century hotel, opposite Wells Cathedral provides a perfect base to explore Somerset
Our final post in the series takes us onto the terrace. Today we look back onto The Swan. The keen eye will spot the deck chair in the bottom right, where many Victorians may have sat back & enjoyed their wine and spirits.
For this weeks 600 year post, we go back in time to a winters day on the terrace, looking out onto the Cathedral green.
Contrast this with the second image of the terrace on a summers day in 2022☀️
What a great photo from the Terrace😍
Make sure you pop by for a drink sometime, whether it be on the terrace or, inside at our comfortable lounge or bar🍸

This weeks '600 years' post looks down Sadler Street towards Market Place & The Swan.
Here, we can see Mitre Hotel, which operated as a hotel from 1830 until 1928 (and had been a hotel as far back as 1605!), a horse and carriage as well as several very well dressed Victorians.
Wow @eatwithkita you have made us blush with your lovely review🥰
With Autumn just round the corner, now is the perfect time to book your Afternoon Tea or purchase a voucher👌

To celebrate 600 years of The Swan Hotel, we've put together a series of before & after posts, most of which have images taken in the early 19th century, starting with this view looking up Sadler street from The Swan.

Throughout this series we've mentioned many wonderful places but none are so wonderful as our very own City of Wells (in our humble opinion..)
With a bustling scene of independent shops, art events & architecture, Wells really does pull its weight when it comes to a day out.
What better way to spend a summers afternoon than sat on the Swan Terrace, looking at the magnificent Wells Cathedral whilst enjoying one of our Prosecco High Teas?😍

For anyone passing through Wells this summer, make sure to visit Wells Market, which runs every Wednesday & Saturday✅

Somerset & Cider are often said in the same sentence & for good reason. This county contains some of the best cideries the UK has to offer - some local cideries you can visit include:
- Sheppy's
- Perry's
- Hecks Farmhouse
- Somerset Cider Brandy Co
- Thatchers
Summer Day Trip Idea #4 - The West Mendip Way.
This Way starts just outside of Wells Cathedral & takes hikers along 30 miles of beautiful Somerset countryside, ending by Uphill Cliffs (if walking from Wells), just a short walk from Weston Super Mare beach.
Don't let your 4-legged friend end up like this poor little guy...
When going away, it can be hard to leave your dog behind. This is why at The Swan we have special rooms which are dog friendly!
