Alcaraz never past the quarters at AO till now. Jan has won it two years in a row. Carlos has never won the Finals, Jannik has, twice in a row. Carlos went out in the first round in Paris, first round, and Jannik won it.
So why was Carlos never insulted or his talent questioned? Because that would’ve been insane. He’s an unbelievable champion who’s already won a ton, but he can’t win every single time, nobody can.
So why is it that our guy who’s basically been winning and making finals for two straight years, who almost ended the season as number one while playing three fewer months than Carlos, has to be put under scrutiny the one time he loses in a semifinal?
“Because it was totally there for the taking, he wasted too many chances.” Sure. That happens. It’ll be another chance to grow as he said. Maybe he still wasn’t fully back to his best after those infamous cramps. Maybe his real achievement in this tournament, mentally in particular, was surviving that situation.
And then there was Djokovic, fired up like crazy by what might’ve been his last real chance, especially with such an easy path, to get his hands on Slam 25, or at least on what could be the last Slam final of his career.
Or maybe it was just a bad day. A flat one. It happens. It’s happened to Carlos too, more often than to Jannik, and it’s happened to Novak himself, to Federer, to Nadal, to all the greats.
The truth is that Jannik has made something completely extraordinary feel normal, almost routine, at least for way too many "fans". You have no idea how much he’s already won, how many records, how many finals in a row he’s played. And if you think you only get to support him when he wins, then not only do you not deserve him, you’re also setting yourself up for constant frustration, because no one, not even him, wins all the time.
Sometimes he’s going to lose. If you can deal with that, great. If not, get off the bandwagon and don’t even think about jumping back on the next time he wins a big title.
And honestly, maybe Jannik himself is starting to get tired of all the bullshit he’s constantly surrounded by, the completely over the top hatred and contempt that pop up at the slightest excuse, whether it’s the Davis Cup or the never ending clostebol shit. And this time, when it could’ve finally been a more normal season, with some of the old controversies finally behind us, the roof, here we go again.
Maybe it’s just fucking exhausting to be an extraordinary champion who wins a lot, breaks records, keeps working his ass off to improve, a genuinely good guy who never has a bad word for anyone, and still be treated like shit, a traitor, a thief, a favourite, a doper, an unlikeable guy with no charisma, a talentless fraud who just happened to be there by luck, you know the drill, right?
Maybe all of this is starting to do some damage too, on a subconscious level, a little bit eating away at his confidence. Honestly, I don’t even know how he’s managed to hold up constantly surrounded by this shit
انتهت الحياة الجامعية في يوم أربعاء عادي، عند الساعة العاشرة صباحًا، بهدوءٍ لم يشبه ضجيج الرحلة.
