In a deeply distressing development, recent footage shows smoke rising from multiple spots across the Koubru hills in Manipur. This is a clear and alarming sign that the War on Drugs is faltering in our state.

What we are witnessing is the resurgence of illegal poppy cultivation and the growing dominance of drug cartels. The same forces that once thrived on the destruction of our youth & forests appear to be gaining ground once again. The relentless march of the Golden Triangle into Manipur continues unchecked in these critical areas.

It must be recalled that under the determined leadership of Shri @NBirenSingh , significant and measurable progress was achieved. Thousands of acres of illegal poppy were destroyed, major drug networks were dismantled, and the people of Manipur saw real hope of a drug-free future. His administration had shown that with political will and consistent action, this menace can be confronted head-on.

Today, the situation demands urgent course correction. The concerned authorities must immediately strengthen surveillance, intensify anti-poppy operations in the hill ranges, and restore the momentum of the War on Drugs. Half-hearted measures will only embolden the cartels further.

At the same time, the people of Manipur cannot remain silent spectators. Protecting our land, forests, and future generations is a collective responsibility. Every citizen, civil society group, and local community must stand united against this existential threat.

The fight against drugs is not merely a law-and-order issue. It is a fight for the survival of Manipur’s indigenous identity and the future of our youth. We cannot afford to lose this battle.

Deadly Deception: The Truth Behind the Bitiang Village Guard Attack

Clarification on the Bitiang Incident

—It has emerged that the COBRA operation in Bitiang, Noney, was triggered by false information. Kuki militants operating under Suspension of Operations (SoO) and ZUF(J) under CoO misled security agencies by falsely claiming that the local Naga Village Guards were members of NSCN-IM and ZUF(K). Rongmei Naga organizations confirmed the involvement of these two groups in orchestrating the misdirection.

Because Bitiang lies in close proximity to Kuki-inhabited areas, Naga Village Guards had been deployed strictly to ensure community safety. Unaware of their true identity, COBRA personnel executed the attack based on the false intelligence. However, after representatives from the Joint Action Committee/CSO presented video proof confirming the identity of the Village Guards to the commanding officers, the COBRA unit acknowledged the error and withdrew from the area.

In response to the incident, various Zeliangrong CSOs and local villages strongly condemned ZUF(J)'s actions, warning against providing them shelter. Meanwhile, outrage among Zeliangrong youth against ZUF(J) continues to escalate.
