We are demanding justice for Snenhlanhla, who was allegedly brutally abused multiple times by her ex-boyfriend. It is further alleged that Snenhlanhla opened four separate cases against the perpetrator - yet no action was taken by the police.

The suspect was only arrested after she was forced to publish the horrific images of her assault on social media and beg the public for help, fearing for her life. We are outraged.

Let us be clear: no survivor should ever have to expose their trauma online to be believed or assisted by the very system that is meant to protect them. Once again, SAPS failed to protect a woman, despite four formal cases being opened. GBVF was declared a National Disaster on 20 November, yet women continue to be met with disregard, negligence, humiliation, and cruelty at police stations and in our courts.

Snenhlanhla is currently in the hospital receiving medical treatment. The suspect, 24, was arrested this afternoon, 12 January 2025, and is expected to appear for bail next week.

We are calling on the Department of Disaster Management and the Department of Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, who were appointed to co-lead and co-implement the National Disaster response, to act immediately and with urgency. It has been eight weeks since GBVF was officially classified as a National Disaster - yet we have seen no enforcement, no urgency, and no systemic change.

We demand accountability. We demand that officials act within this crisis framework. And we demand that bail is not granted to those charged with GBV, femicide, child abuse, and murder. 🚨BREAKING 🚨:

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Northern Gaza, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize after Doctors for Gaza from the Netherlands put his name forward.

A Palestinian paediatrician and neonatologist, Abu Safiya was born on 21 November 1973 at Jabalia Refugee Camp in Gaza, his family having been kicked out from Hamama during the 1948 Nakba.

Abu Safiya is in prison under Israel’s “Unlawful Combatants” law, which allows extended detention without the standard legal processes.

Since his arrest, Dr. Abu Safiya has reportedly been held under harsh and abusive conditions:

Denied adequate medical care.

Suffering serious health issues: heart enlargement, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat.

Weight loss of over 15kgs in a short period.

Solitary confinement, physical abuse including beatings and other mistreatment.

HIS MISTAKE?

He stayed and continued to provide medical care at Kamal Adwan when Northern Gaza was under siege.

Abu Safiya has become a symbol of Gaza’s crumbling healthcare system under dire conditions. His work and arrest have drawn international attention and concern.

This is my will and my final message. If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice. First, peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings.

Allah knows I gave every effort and all my strength to be a support and a voice for my people, ever since I opened my eyes to life in the alleys and streets of the Jabalia refugee camp. My hope was that Allah would extend my life so I could return with my family and loved ones to our original town of occupied Asqalan (Al-Majdal). But Allah’s will came first, and His decree is final. I have lived through pain in all its details, tasted suffering and loss many times, yet I never once hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without distortion or falsification—so that Allah may bear witness against those who stayed silent, those who accepted our killing, those who choked our breath, and whose hearts were unmoved by the scattered remains of our children and women, doing nothing to stop the massacre that our people have faced for more than a year and a half.

I entrust you with Palestine—the jewel in the crown of the Muslim world, the heartbeat of every free person in this world. I entrust you with its people, with its wronged and innocent children who never had the time to dream or live in safety and peace. Their pure bodies were crushed under thousands of tons of Israeli bombs and missiles, torn apart and scattered across the walls.

I urge you not to let chains silence you, nor borders restrain you. Be bridges toward the liberation of the land and its people, until the sun of dignity and freedom rises over our stolen homeland. I entrust you to take care of my family. I entrust you with my beloved daughter Sham, the light of my eyes, whom I never got the chance to watch grow up as I had dreamed.

I urge you to stand by them, to be their support after Allah Almighty. If I die, I die steadfast upon my principles. I testify before Allah that I am content with His decree, certain of meeting Him, and assured that what is with Allah is better and everlasting.

O Allah, accept me among the martyrs, forgive my past and future sins, and make my blood a light that illuminates the path of freedom for my people and my family. Forgive me if I have fallen short, and pray for me with mercy, for I kept my promise and never changed or betrayed it.

Do not forget Gaza… And do not forget me in your sincere prayers for forgiveness and acceptance.
