Bread Baker, Newsreader, Broken down runner, cheerleader to two swammers and two swimmers, gave my heart to a Cardinal baseball fan, still like my Lions.
“Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you and carry you.” (Ps.55:22; Isa.46:4). Hmmm, what shall I choose? Live weighed down under burdens I was never meant to carry, OR give those burdens to Jesus and let him care for and carry me?
· New mercies, sufficient grace, and transcendent peace
· The gift of Jesus’ righteousness and his 24/7 invitation to rest
· A loving Father, the indwelling Spirit, and reigning King
· A forgiven past, Gospel-claimed present, and glorious future … We’ll be just fine!
Jesus woos us with this: “Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away.” (Song 2:10). How do I know it’s time to “Arise”?
· When it's easier to rush to judgment than rush to Jesus
· When there’s more fear/dread in my heart than peace/delight
· When I chose aloneness over caring for others
Wondering if there’s enough grace in Jesus for your sin, brokenness, and messes is like wondering if there’s enough water in Niagara Falls to fill a toddler’s sippy cup. “Grace upon grace” is Jesus’ specialty (Jn.1:16)
Here’s to a day of inhaling God’s grace and breathing his kindness in the direction of others. May our intentional encouragements outnumber our thoughtless criticisms 10 to 1. May we be unavoidably aware of Jesus ruling over all things from his throne of grace today.
In 50 years of pastoring, I never had anyone say to me in the last ¼ of their life, “Scotty, I’m so glad I lived as a small-hearted, grace-miser. I wasn’t good at pickleball or fly fishing, but I “rocked” at resenting, taking things way too personally, blaming, shaming, and pouting.”
About 25,000 people visit the Louvre in Paris daily all wanting to see the Mona Lisa. When they do they stay 15 seconds and move on. No wonder none of them start looking like the Mona Lisa. But if we only gaze at Jesus 15 seconds a day we won’t resemble Jesus much either. Let’s fix our gaze and remove our watches.
Yup. I’ve been saying for years now, he’s not a great political talent. At least not public facing. He is good currying favor with patrons, journalists, donors, and insiders. Those people assume, pretend, or wish that his backroom skill translates to mass appeal because that would help them. They’re wrong.
Here’s to a day of “faith expressing itself in love” (Gal.5:6), love expressing itself in curiosity and kindness, and a steady flow of encouragement and life-giving words through us.
"Look, behold, ponder long and deep… the greatness of the love our Father has lavished upon us. How great is this love? Great enough for Abba to redeem, adopt, and make us his beloved children—great enough for him to make us 100% like Jesus one Day" (pp 1Jn.3:1-3)
Father’s Day weekend is the perfect 72 hours (1) to bask in our heavenly Father’s incomparable, lavish, unwavering love for us and (2) to steward our earthly father story—whether our story is so sweet, so hard, or a combo of both. All dads and kids need God’s grace.

As to your complaints, I shall be always glad to hear them with attention, and esteem myself very happy to bear a part of your burden. I could likewise repeat numberless complaints in return: but instead of that, permit me to mention my 'cordial,' which, amidst all my complaints, helps me to many a quiet thought and many a sound sleep, which is--'If God has given me Christ, what can I have to complain of?'

In one night, Braden Montgomery made his MLB debut and collected his:
- first hit
- first RBI
- first home run
- first walk-off
- first walk-off home run
Here’s to a week of Gospel-astonishment, delighting ourselves in the Lord, excessive gratitude, and a contentment that sabotages our restlessness, envy, and drivenness.
