While I was looking for admission into medical school, I lived in my village. So, I went to the town and my guardian introduced me to an admin staff in UNILORIN that he should please help me with my admission cos that was the 3rd year I tried getting in.
He looked at me condescendingly and said in Yoruba “eyin o se ki n yan ni ibi ti owo yin ti t’agbon” meaning I was going for something that was beyond me. He then went on to ask me if I knew what the cut-off for medicine was. I told him but I was sure to let him know that I had never had below the cut-off. It was before a vigil I prayed like mad that night. I felt bad about what he said cos he made me look small.
Guess who is a Senior registers and has a Masters in Public health now ?
Let people say what they want. It doesn’t define you. Let it spur you to greatness. I hope this helps 😊

For those who genuinely don’t know the difference between a Registered nurse (RN) and a quack:

1. Education

•RN: Trained in an accredited nursing school or university (3–5 years).
•Quack: No formal nursing education or training.

2.Licensing

•RN: Licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
•Quack: No license, no regulatory body, nothing.

3.Clinical Competence

•RN: Trained in evidence-based care, aseptic technique, patient safety.
•Quack: Practices dangerous, outdated, or made-up methods.

4.Professional Ethics

•RN: Guided by a code of ethics, responsible for patient advocacy.
•Quack: Lacks accountability, driven by profit or reputation.

5.Practice Setting

•RN: Works in registered hospitals, clinics, or public health facilities.
•Quack: Operates in unregistered centers, shops, or homes.

6.Supervision & Continuous Learning

•RN: Supervised during training; engages in ongoing CPD (Continuing Professional Development).
•Quack: No supervision, no development, just dangerous confidence.

7.Recognition

•RN: Name searchable on NMCN register.
•Quack: No trace, no history, no validation
