On this my 74th birthday, I celebrate the valiant men and women of our Armed Forces.

Today, I have directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to establish a special account for a fund dedicated to those who serve, those wounded in the line of duty, and the families of those who have paid the ultimate price.

As a personal commitment, all my salaries since assuming office will be paid into this account as seed funding, irrespective of existing insurance and welfare schemes for members of our armed forces. This fund will directly support those who have lost their limbs, and the widows, widowers, and children of those who laid down their lives in service to our dear country.

I call on our Governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, my friends and all well-wishers to support this initiative. Details of the account will be made available in due course.

We must never forget those who stand in harm’s way for our peace, nor the sacrifices borne by their families.

This is not charity. It is duty.

And we will fulfil it.

Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPRs) are instruments of energy security, not price management. Their formal mandate is supply disruption mitigation, not consumer price relief. This is a basic knowledge.

This opposition is a blessing for President Bola Tinubu, but a curse for Nigeria. If this is the best argument of a major opposition leader, the president can go to bed knowing he cannot be defeated at the level of ideas.

It is sad and shocking. Nigerians deserve better than this watery akamu level of policy alternatives.

For Nigerians, it simply means they cannot even enjoy the privilege of comparing government policies with practical ideas from the opposition. The best we are getting are newspaper stands level of argument. Government policies are better served when the opposition challenge them on their essence, practicality and effectiveness.

For now, we must make do with ‘you dey gbogbolo siga’ level of alternate policies.

Populist candidates are better served by moments, once time passes, people are forced to scratch beneath the noise. Sadly, what gets exposed is often an unwholesome sight.

I entered this airline’s toilet and everywhere was a mess. I asked one of the hostesses if there is anyone on board who is desperate to be president of their country. Confused, she asked why? I said it is the dirty toilet test of presidential ability.

She looked at me funny like she needed to get me a psychiatrist and left. Next time I went back to the toilet, it was as clean as new. A humble presidential candidate had quietly gone to clean it up.

Whatever you do, seek the audacity of the average Nigerian politician, it will help you in your quest to face a truly challenging world.

Whilst you think the world revolves around you, they know it revolves around them and their ambitions. And they expect you to believe it and jump around with them. When you don’t, that which you did for them without pay or acknowledgement, they’d even shamelessly use it to insult you. I lol again.
