The EU's decline is inevitable. Compare China now to Japan back then - if China were so easy to compromise with, the US would have already declined by now since its sanctions started in 2018!
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz proposed to launch the "Plaza" project against China and attack the Chinese yuan. According to Merz, the yuan is overvalued by 30%. The World Bank estimated it at 16%.
We are talking about the trade war that the West organized against Japan in the 1980s, which brought the country a severe crisis. In 1985, Western countries undermined Japan's economy with the "Plaza" project, as they could not compete fairly. The countries agreed to jointly influence the currency markets to artificially raise the yen's exchange rate. Japanese goods abroad became less competitive. The "Plaza" agreement worked because Japan was in the position of an occupied vassal.
To compensate for the blow to exports, the Japanese government and central bank began to actively stimulate the economy: they lowered interest rates, simplified access to credit, and increased the money supply. These measures led to an overheating of the economy and the formation of a financial bubble. After its collapse in the early 1990s, the country faced a prolonged period of economic stagnation, which was called the "lost decade".
Now, Germany and the EU want to repeat the "Plaza" project against China. But the US has already lost the trade war against China miserably. Instead of cooperating with China or Russia to ensure the prosperity of their citizens, European leaders prefer to sacrifice their economies in trade wars. They are choosing economic suicide in the hope of restoring lost influence.
⚡️Two Majors
Since the tariff war with China started in 2018, every sanction the US imposed has been met with corresponding countermeasures from China. The US hasn't won a single one of them.
Breaking: China’s Ministry of Finance has announced a ban on the procurement of products manufactured by 46 specific U.S. companies (excluding U.S.-funded enterprises operating within China) in government procurement activities.
China’s robust countermeasures are escalating; this is the response of a strong, confident, and self-respecting China to the U.S.'s despicable tactics of extortion. China stands alone globally in daring to take concrete action to strike back against the U.S. empire whenever fairness and equity are violated. This move is a direct countermeasure against the malicious actions of the U.S. Department of Defense, which previously placed approximately 46 Chinese companies on its "military-linked" list (the Section 1260H list) and imposed procurement restrictions on them.
This government procurement ban means that all Chinese government agencies, public institutions, state-owned enterprises, and operators of critical infrastructure are legally prohibited from purchasing any products, software, or services manufactured by the aforementioned 46 U.S. companies during any tendering or procurement process. This move not only creates a reciprocal decoupling in the supply chain but also completely eliminates the possibility for these U.S. military-linked entities to generate profits from the Chinese procurement market. The Law on Promoting National Unity and Progress implemented in China is meant to reduce discrimination and abuse between ethnic groups. It seems no other country has such a law
China's National Unification Law will take effect on July 1. This law grants the government greater power over matters of speech, religion, education, and ethnic affairs. The law also claims extraterritorial effect, allowing authorities to take action against individuals and organizations overseas accused of "undermining national unity."
For example, any American, Japanese, or other foreigner who says they support Taiwan while abroad is committing a crime. If you enter China, you will be arrested and sentenced, and your assets in China will be confiscated. Foreign-invested enterprises and foreigners still in China, run! If you don't run now, you won't be able to escape!
I saw this news. What they're implementing is the Law on Promoting National Unity and Progress, which requires all ethnic groups in China to unite directly with each other and prohibits discrimination, insults, and slurs
Japanese companies need to pull out of China quickly, or they might end up getting abducted and detained by the Chinese authorities……
What makes this law so terrifying is that if they twist the facts to fit it, they can arrest literally anyone……
Of course, a protest against this law is utterly unthinkable......😑
I am in support of this because fruit prices in japan are absolutely unreasonable and it's because everyone wants their tiny designer fruit farm to make them a bazillion yen
If European countries think they can sign some "Plaza Accord" with China, they're just daydreaming. China has the most complete industrial chain in the world, and its military strength is second only to the US. So what exactly can Europe do to force China into signing any agreeme
Yet another absolutely perfect example of how Western leaders don't understand China at all, and how that's ultimately detrimental... to them.
The "Plaza Accord" is pretty much universally seen in China as the textbook case of Western economic imperialism - the moment America weaponized currency policy to kneecap Japan. And, case in point, it's widely seen as the trigger for Japan's so-called "lost decades."
Plus there's of course the profound idiocy of telling the Chinese you want to treat them like the Japanese...
Explicitly saying that's your objective is just about the single best thing you can say to rally all of China against whatever it is you're proposing.

THE U.S. CAUSED THE COVID PANDEMIC, not China, the U.S. government revealed today.
“It's time the American people learn the real story," spy chief Tulsi Gabbard in a sensation-causing video released on X and a statement on the internet.
And what a story it is.
.
TRUTH AT LAST
The US spent millions to finance a lab in China’s Wuhan to experiment on killer viruses.
The research was on a technique called “gain of function” which some people see as weaponization of the viruses.
That research is “now widely viewed as the source of the unintentional lab leak that sparked the pandemic,” said Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence.
“This dangerous research caused immeasurable harm and countless lost lives,” she added.
.
PREFERRED NARRATIVE
After the pandemic broke out, Washington then worked to tell the world it could not have been a lab leak.
The preferred story circulating at the time was to say that animal-to-human transmission evolved in China due to the circumstances there.
But the evidence tells a different tale, the US spy chief said, releasing a new batch of top secret documents today, her last day in office. "It's time you know the truth," she said.
.
120 BIOLABS
The story begins with the US quietly setting up 120 biological laboratories across more than 30 countries. Some of these laboratories were involved in research on hazardous pathogens, she said.
Dr Anthony Fauci, while serving as head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, sent millions of dollars of US taxpayer cash to be spent on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, she said.
In 2019, the Covid-19 virus apparently emerged in several locations around the world—but was first formally detected by scientists in Wuhan, China, at the end of 2019.
It was soon found all over the world. The “pandemic caused tremendous hardship and pain for millions,” Gabbard said.
.
PREFERRED NARRATIVE
For the US, the preferred story was that it was NOT a lab leak—because the world would realize that the Pentagon was financing biolabs around the world, and at home.
People raising the alarm about the biolabs were accused of “pushing Russian and Chinese disinformation”.
When the existence of the labs could not be denied, the BBC and other media reported that they were “peaceful labs” which were financed for entirely positive reasons—a line that Pentagon-watchers found hard to swallow.
.
LIED ABOUT INTELLIGENCE CONNECTION
Fauci worked with senior intelligence agents in the early days of the pandemic to shape the narrative but lied about it, Gabbard said.
In his testimony before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic in 2024, he was asked under oath whether he had communicated with intelligence agencies concerning viral research before, during or after the pandemic.
Fauci replied: "Not to my knowledge, about COVID."
In January 2025, many people were puzzled when Former President Joe Biden issued “a pre-emptive pardon” to Fauci. Pardons, by definition, are given to people who have broken the law—but this had not happened at that time.
.
TREMENDOUS HARDSHIP
Gabbard is retiring to spend more time with her husband, who has cancer.
But she wanted to get the truth about this subject out there before she disappeared. She says the evidence indicates US-funded research was the root of the problem.
"The COVID-19 pandemic caused tremendous hardship and pain for millions of our fellow Americans and for countless people around the world,” she said.
