Did y'all think I wouldn't remember that today is the 147th anniversary of the first class held at Texas A&M? Not likely! It was 147 years ago today, on October 4, 1876, that Texas A&M held its first class. There were only six professors. Forty students were present on the first day of classes, but by the end of the school year, the number had grown to 106 students. Only men were admitted, and all students were required to participate in the Corps of Cadets and receive military training. The campus bore minimal resemblance to its modern counterpart. Wild animals roamed freely around the campus, and the area served as a meeting point for the Great Western Cattle Trail.

Here's a photo of the 1913 Texas Aggie Marching Band. The band is a little bit bigger today. They never played the Aggie War Hymn, of course, being that it was written in 1918.
