And you should especially be involved if you live in a community where the HOA covers things like the exterior of your condominium or shared community amenities like pools.

Prime example of why we get the government we deserve. If people actually paid attention to their HOA it can be one of the best things for home values but most are lazy and just assume it is being run properly. Don’t complain if you weren’t involved or attending meetings.

Residents in an Orange County condo complex all received letters from their HOA saying they owe $26,000 each for new roof assessments

All 189 units are expected to come up with $26,000 and senior residents, one that’s 81 year old, says this will drain the little bit of retirement money they have left

The complex is The Villa Mora Vilamoura condo complex in the Rancho San Clemente

According to the law, they can actually be forced to pay this if the HOA can prove one of these justifications:

- A court ordered the expense
- A threat to personal health, safety or another hazardous condition was discovered
- An extraordinary repair, maintenance cost that could not have been reasonably foreseen when the board prepared the annual budget

Don’t ever buy a home where you have an HOA
