Starting to get some solid banter from JT and Billy Ho. Feels quieter this week—maybe the competitive vibe is in play? This format has room to evolve, and I’m curious to see where it goes.
Let’s take a moment to give @MattBarrie some credit—it can’t be easy filling a couple of hours solo. Hopefully, they’ll bring a golf analyst or former player on set with him soon to add some extra insight to the coverage. @TGL@espn
I have to give credit to today’s crop of players for stepping out of their comfort zones to try to grow the game and connect with fans. Their efforts to boost engagement and make golf more #fun is exactly what the sport needs.
Justin Thomas just sent this memo to PGA Tour members, obtained by @TheAthletic, about the importance of players being open and accessible to the tour's TV partners: NBC, CBS and ESPN.
"I'm sure many of us feel the telecasts can be better, so let's help them do that."
@Daniel_Rapaport This might be why it succeeds. Short clips are the key to reaching viewers who won’t tune in for a four-day tournament. It shows what golf really is—fun.
@NUCLRGOLF Absolutely loved it! If teams can build real rivalries and fully embrace the competitive aspect of it, this could easily become a must-watch for me every week!
I’m not sure TGL will take off immediately, but they’ve clearly spared no expense on the setup. The success or failure might come down to how much the golfers’ personalities shine through. #TGL
