REAL grass-roots representation of the thousands of local residents, community groups and businesses who want a future without increased planes from Heathrow.
Great to see @UK_CAA rejected @HeathrowRunways current airspace change proposal. People might have been expected to endure flights in and out at the same time without respite. https://t.co/NBYoYLwYRx
Our second article on greenwashing in the aviation industry focuses on what can be done to combat it. We need to:
🟢Challenge greenwash whenever possible
🟢Demand transparency on the part of airlines and airports
🟢Educate consumers

New report from @transenv finds that taxing airlines for the fuel they use, at the same level as motorists pay, would have generated an additional £6.7 billion for the Treasury in 2019.
Kerosene used by airlines is currently untaxed.

"Local residents of #Schiphol ✈️ are suing the state because of nuisance . According to Laurien Nijenhuis, lecturer in Constitutional and Administrative Law, this increasingly happens when citizens feel that the government has not done something right."
"The airline industry has a climate problem. Aviation relies on highly polluting fossil fuels, and expert studies warn that the airline industry cannot reach net zero by 2050 and align with climate goals without lowering air traffic."

The overriding principle, is to cram ever more flights into the aleady overcrowded south-east, creating 'noise sewers' (a CAA CEO quote) to the overflown, blighting property prices and causing significant harm to health. They are coming to place near you!!
@HeathrowNoise During the current disruption, it might be better to tweak your "arrivals tomorrow will start ..." boilerplate.
Last night for example, it would have been more accurate to say "arrivals tomorrow will start from 00:05 (BA from MAD) & departures will start from 00:10 (BA to KWI)".
Over the next few years flightpaths will change as satellite-based systems are introduced. It will mean narrower, concentrated flightpaths, creating noise ghettos unless the flightpaths are alternated to provide respite. A cautionary tale from America….

If you was an American would you want to come to London and spend your summer vacation in the UK after hearing the news that Delta Air Lines has sent an empty plane from American to the UK’s premier-airport in order to repatriate more than 1000 suitcases. https://t.co/Hs62RsXaU3
Residents under Heathrow are being kept awake until after midnight, as aircraft arrive and depart later than planned due to ongoing disruption across the sector. 1/2

This revelation blows a huge hole in Heathrow’s claim that more than 120,000 new jobs would be created by the airport expanding, including 70,000 “locally”, the truth is far fewer jobs would be created, and most of those jobs would be low paid and filled by foreign workers.
To give our passengers a better, more reliable service this summer and to keep our colleagues safe – we’ll be implementing a departing passenger cap of 100k from today to 11 Sept.

Reminder on #CleanAirDay that the area around Heathrow is the second major hot spot for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) pollution in London, with breaches of legal limits regularly recorded close to the airport.
Today is #CleanAirDay!
A must-read is Expansion rebellion, a new book by @ChadCeleste which looks at the campaign against the expansion of #Heathrow, and how without limits the aviation industry will continue to deepen the #ClimateCrisis.

Lawyers bringing the anti-expansion case to the High Court emphasise that no-one is considering the cumulative impact of regional airport expansions.
