@BaronDestructo I find the whole notion of if it's cannon nobody new will watch, you didn't have to watch the movie to watch SG1, you didn't have to watch SG1 to watch Atlantis, yes the show was set up in SG1 but it all got covered in the Atlantis pilot, same is true Univers
Well this is a hastily cobbled together shit-take of conjecture and misdirection.
The author starts by misreading a grassroots marketing launch as a statement of exclusive intent. Come on. Announcing a series TO a fandom alongside its community leaders is standard PR; it's not proof that the show was designed exclusively FOR fandom. In fact, it was made clear from the start that, first and foremost, the series would function as an accessible entry point for new viewers...while still respecting canon. And, by the way, “Respecting canon” does not mean “requiring new viewers to be familiar with 350+ hours of existing Stargate programming” as this article implies.
The author proceeds to support their point by launching into fan fiction: "No plot details were revealed about the scrapped show, but I can easily imagine…” And they certainly do. What follows is a parade of clichés, a generic legacy-sequel checklist that the author has conjured up from nothing and pinned to the new show as predictive evidence.
Then comes the claim that Starfleet: Academy failed because the showrunners: "focused too much on paying tribute to the series' past.” Uh, wut? Yes, Starfleet: Academy did receive a fair amount of criticism, but strict adherence to canon wasn't on the list of grievances. This reads like a comment from someone who likely never even watched the show, much less perused the fan response.
They state: "Rebooting the cannon also would let the new Stargate showrunner bring back the Goa'uld, the franchise's most iconic villains…” No, it wouldn’t. Know why? Because the goa’uld... ARE CANON!!!!
The article concludes with a disconnected meditation on an old Stargate storyline with no relation to either the new show or the author’s own argument.
I want to say it was written by A.I., but surely A.I. would display more logical consistency than this.
How the hell does this account have over 1 million followers?
Hi @AmazonMGMStudio,
Many of us now work in filmmaking because of shows like Stargate SG-1.
It inspired us with its rich lore, believable character interactions, human drama, and its grounded military science fiction setting.
It showed the progress of humanity from its first baby steps through an unknown portal into a space-faring species.
The show was hopeful, human, and naturally diverse.
It showed the world and mankind coming together despite our differences to create something better.
Indeed, that is what the core of Stargate is and always has been.
We are from around the world.
We are men, women, fathers, mothers, grandparents, grandchilren, and proud of the values Stargate has always stood for. It's rare for a franchise that appeals to people across a political divide, but Stargate always has. It has always stood for the message that we are stronger together. These are the fans.
Martin Gero, Joe Mallozzi, Brad Wright, and everyone else involved have had decades to understand this. There is no better team to trust than the ones who've been there with us the longest. It's a symbiotic relationship.
I, and every Stargate fan, urge you to reconsider during this Window of Opportunity. The writing team was in the middle of their backswing during the cancellation announcement. At least let them finish a season.
We are worth taking a chance on!
I'm Emerald May, and I work in visual effects in Atlanta and I'm proud of shows like Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe that helped steer my career into a place where we make worlds come true.
Thank you.
Ahead of Thursday morning's livestream with Jenny and David, here is my analysis of what's happened to #Stargate at @PrimeVideo. The tl;dw: Amazon has done profound damage to its relationship with fandom.

Star Trek LOST THE PLOT?! | Is For All Mankind the REAL Successor to Trek? w/ Robert Meyer Burnett
Wild question:
Did #ForAllMankind quietly become the best Star Trek show… even though it isn’t Star Trek? 👀
While #StarfleetAcademy left many longtime Trek fans divided, For All Mankind and its spin-off #StarCity seem to be giving audiences something many feel modern Trek lost:
🖖 Optimism
🌍 Humanity striving toward a better future
🚀 Exploration & discovery
🧠 Smart sci-fi driven by ideas, consequences & character
Joining me is @RMBee to tackle the debate Trek fandom can’t stop having:
👉 Has For All Mankind picked up the torch that modern Star Trek dropped?
It's Day 2 and we demand @AmazonMGMStudio to either...
1) Let the Stargate creators make a new show
2) Release the rights so fans can do it
And no, Hammond won't take your silence as an answer
What exactly is this mythical "modern audience" that studios keep trying to please? They didn't show up to support new Trek; they didn't show up to support new Dr Who. Franchises like Stargate have massive fan bases practically begging studios to give them more of what they love
More than anything this is an affront to the fans, the people who love sci-fi.
Amazon flat out told creators we are not worth creating a show for.
Think about how insulting this is. These corporations hate us. This is why every sci-fi franchise has turned to crap.
Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, they all chased this other modern audience that wasn't there and Amazon wants to do the exact same thing.
This is why we can't have nice things.
