14 months later he shot a SC deputy multiple times.

Morris Laytrell Dorch, 39, is charged with attempted murder after Aiken County Deputy Preston Metts was shot during a traffic stop.

Oct. 21, around 11:30pm, Deputy Metts stopped a Hyundai Tucson.

The sheriff says a passenger got out and ran into the woods.

Metts chased him.

He allegedly opened fire, hitting Metts in the both legs, the hand, and the chest.

SLED says an AR-style gun was recovered at the scene.

The driver of the Tucson, Teondra Coleman, drove off.

Oct. 23, Dorch was arrested in Jacksonville, FL, with a gunshot wound to the foot, according to SLED.

Dorch is charged with: attempted murder, possession of a firearm during a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The driver of the Tucson, Coleman, was charged with misprision of a felony and failure to stop for blue lights.

So, what about Dorch's history?

2006: age 19, he racked up 7 cases in Aiken County, including marijuana possession and possession of a cocaine base.

2007: Picked up another case. Then charged with the murder of Prince E. Shand, Jr., at large for over a year.

2010: Murder charge dismissed for lack of indictment.

Dec. 2012: Two more cases, one dismissed. Then, charged with the murder of Delance Walton, 21.

He was allowed to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter and attempted murder.

He got 15 years.

Aug. 29, 2025: He was reportedly released from prison.

Oct, 21, 2026: Deputy Metts was shot.

A career criminal almost killed a deputy after at least 2 more deaths allegedly at his hands.
