The lease for @ValsCheesecakes on Greenville Ave. is up in 2025. He needs more parking spaces to sell beer & wine— but he can’t get them. And he’s tried.
“My heart is just not in continuing to fight,” he told @SharonFGrigsby.

This is hardly an original thought, but its striking how closely strava running data maps onto patterns of segregation and gentrification in American cities. Baltimore is particularly stark—it's crazy how closely joggers stick to ~6 roads on north-south runs
@bnjd1837 The homeless obviously. We’ll just scoop them off the streets of LA, give them money for a bus and keys to a half-collapsed house in Gary with lead painted walls and three holes in the roof. Homelessness solved!
My adventures in population density continue - this time I try to find the maximum population density in the United States, using 2020 Census data - e.g. here's the maximum 1km square I found in each state

Definite bad urban take. Many of these communities were incorporated before they were surrounded.
FYI: @mnolangray blocks this account because he is a coward. Feel free to tell him so.
@JackTreanor617 @mnolangray It's a fantastic example. Earlier in its history it was a home for non-skilled workers and now it is composed ofca high number of immigrants. Is it your proposal that it be dissolved because you, a non-resident, non-stakeholder, say so?
@JackTreanor617 @mnolangray Let's take Beverly Hills. In 2000, median income was $71k with 77% non-hisp white. Let's take Hamtramck, MI founded in 1798 but not officially until 1901. Now home to 20% Bangladeshi, and 11% Pakistani origin. Have you been to both? I have.
@JackTreanor617 @mnolangray If you agree with them, then how do you solve the problem that these places existed before they were surrounded? Do you then propose they not be surrounded?
Dallas is great and so are Austin and most Texas cities. The real problem is how much greater we COULD be if we'd get out of our own way (and stop doing a few actively stupid things).
