📜 The Siyar Project — A Journey Through 40,000 Lives
I have Engineering background, and it’s still my profession.
However, beyond engineering, I have always had a deep interest in social sciences, history, languages, and cultures. The study of people, civilizations, and the ideas that shaped humanity has always fascinated me.
Perhaps one day, by the permission of Allah, I may return to university and formally study history. Until then, this project is my journey of learning.
I begin:
The Siyar Project
A journey through the biographies recorded in one of the greatest works of Islamic history:
سِيَرُ أَعْلَامِ النُّبَلَاءِ
(Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ)
by Imām Shams al-Dīn al-Dhahabī رحمه الله.
Through this series, I hope to share the lives of thousands of remarkable individuals: scholars, worshippers, leaders, narrators, and personalities whose knowledge, character, and sacrifices shaped Islamic civilization.
My approach:
• Every biography will be based on Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ.
• Quotations will be included only when verified from the source.
• The words and methodology of Imām al-Dhahabī will be respected.
• The purpose is learning, reflection, and preserving history.
The reference edition for this project will be:
Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ
Muʾassasat al-Risālah, Beirut.
May Allah grant sincerity, benefit, and acceptance.

"There is a time on Friday during which no Muslim servant stands praying and asks Allah for something good except that Allah grants it to him."
Sahih al-Bukhari (935), Sahih Muslim (852)
The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday. On it Adam was created, on it he entered Paradise, on it he was expelled from it, and the Hour will not be established except on Friday."
Sahih Muslim (854)
Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ Author:
الإمام شمس الدين محمد بن أحمد بن عثمان الذهبي
Imām Shams al-Dīn al-Dhahabī (673–748 AH / 1274–1348 CE))
Imām of ḥadīth, history, and ʿilm al-rijāl (biographical evaluation), al-Dhahabī devoted his life to preserving the legacy of those who carried this religion. His scholarship united rigorous verification with remarkable breadth, enabling him to document centuries of Islamic history through the lives of its most distinguished figures.
(Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ), is more than a collection of biographies. It is a living chronicle of the intellectual, spiritual, and moral heritage of the Muslim Ummah. Within its pages are the lives of the Prophets, the Companions, the Tābiʿūn, scholars, rulers, judges, ascetics, and countless others whose efforts shaped Islamic civilization.
One of Imām al-Dhahabī's defining qualities is his balance. He praises without exaggeration, critiques without injustice, and transmits reports with the discernment of a master muḥaddith. It is this methodology that has made Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ one of the most trusted works in Islamic biographical literature.
May Allah have mercy on Imām al-Dhahabī, elevate his rank, and allow us to benefit from his enduring legacy.

• Companions of the Prophet ﷺ

• Jurists and judges
• Worshippers and ascetics
• Leaders and influential figures
It is not merely a book of names.
It is a collection of lessons about knowledge, character, patience, and devotion.

Why study the lives of people who lived centuries ago?
Because history is not only about dates and events.
History is about people.
Behind every scholar who preserved knowledge, every leader who served justice, and every believer who sacrificed for truth, there is a story.
Allah says:
"Indeed, in their stories there is a lesson for those of understanding."
(Qur'an 12:111)
The purpose of studying biographies is not simply to know names.
It is to learn:
• How they sought knowledge.
• How they faced hardship.
• How they lived with sincerity.
• How they left a legacy.
This is the spirit behind The Siyar Project.
