@sauvikdasgupta @chrismccrum Nothing borderline about it. Them plainly admitting the manuscript coming from an editorial board member plays any role in the reviewing process is a double red flag. Not only willing to push through a sub-par study, but also evidence that they see nothing wrong with that.

@chrismccrum I asked the editor to explain this choice and received this as a reply... Apparently, if you are an editor you get a 'get out of jail free card' when it comes to terrible manuscripts. Safe to say, I will not review for, or publish with them again.

@chrismccrum Thanks for delving into this Chris! I have done some reviews for MDPI journals and was pondering to stop doing so altogether. Recently I rejected a manuscript due to serious methodological concerns. I was surprised to then receive a request to review the revised manuscript.
