Under the Central Motor Vehicles (Twelfth Amendment) Rules, 2026, automatic load covers will be mandatory for all tippers and dumpers with effect from April 1, 2027.

The covers must fully enclose the load body while the vehicle is in motion. An audio-visual alert will also be provided in the driver’s cabin if the cover is open or unsecured.

The measure will help prevent dust, spillage and falling material, contributing to cleaner highways and safer journeys for all road users.
