Jadung, emptied in 1962, gets its homes back after 64 years

During the India China war, the people of Jadung were moved out of their village in Uttarkashi. At 12,000 feet near the border, it stood empty for over six decades.

Now it's being brought back to life under the Vibrant Village scheme. Six houses are almost ready and could be handed to villagers by the 25th. Six homestays are complete and eight more are being built.

For the families who lost their ancestral village, this means a lot.
But they have one worry. Jadung and Nelang still fall under Inner Line rules, which restrict tourist movement and overnight stays. Villagers say that unless these rules are eased, the homestays won't get guests and the jobs they were promised won't come.

The DM says the Centre and state are working on relaxing the rules.

Jadung has its homes back. Now it needs people to be able to visit.
