"You don't have to root for him, but rooting against, in a US Open? I thought it was kind of embarrassing."
DP talks Wyndham Clark winning his second career US Open
In 1884, Ulysses S. Grant was dying of throat cancer and was dead broke.
His money was wiped out by a swindler who stole his fortune.
Desperate to leave something for his wife, he agreed to write his Civil War memoirs and was close to signing a contract for a meager 10% royalty.
Mark Twain stepped in, called the deal robbery and offered Grant 70% of the profits through his own publishing company.
Grant raced death to finish the book, completing it just days before he died in July 1885.
It became one of the greatest memoirs ever written.
The royalties left his widow nearly half a million dollars, about $16 million today, and the book has never gone out of print.
At 5:12 on a stormy Thursday evening, a man walked into an animal shelter to drop off donated food, blankets, and orthopedic beds.
He had no intention of adopting a dog.
Then he met Walter.
A 16-year-old Bloodhound with less than 24 hours left before he was scheduled to be euthanized.
Walter had been surrendered by the family he’d spent his entire life with.
Reason for surrender?
“Owner moving.”
Two words that erased 16 years of loyalty.
Old, thin, and struggling to walk, Walter slowly made his way to the front of his kennel when the visitor knelt beside him.
Then he did something heartbreaking.
He gently placed his paw in the stranger’s hand.
Not begging.
Not barking.
Just reaching out.
A dog who had every reason to stop trusting people still believed someone might show him kindness.
The man walked away.
He made it to his truck.
Started the engine.
And sat there staring through the rain.
But he couldn’t stop thinking about Walter’s paw.
A silent request for one last chance.
A few minutes later, he turned off the engine and walked back inside.

Just a place shy of 3rd straight top 10 in majors this year. These events are amazing. They test every part of your game. And you have to confront every emotion that you feel. But, that’s why we do it! Winning is always the aim. Majors are the goal. I’ll there close enough to still believe it can happen again soon. Thx for the unbelievable support from the fans in what is their national open. Very grateful. 🙏 @usopengolf
