@HoCcommitteesUK What about transitional justice in Syria? Will it hold only Assad-era criminals accountable, or also the new authorities for crimes against Alawites, Druze, Christians and Kurds after Assad’s fall? Justice cannot be selective. Is there an answer?

What happened yesterday in Serê Kaniyê (Ras al Ayn) cars being smashed and Kurdish civilians reportedly attacked as they returned home after seven years of displacement is deeply alarming.

The right to return is recognized in international human rights law, including Article 13(2) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Return must be voluntary, safe and dignified.

The international community must act urgently to protect returning civilians and prevent further escalation.
