A Orca gave birth to a calf that died shortly after.
For the next 17 days, she carried her dead baby on her head and back while swimming more than 1,600 kilometers through the waters of the North Pacific.
Whenever she grew tired, members of her pod swam alongside her and helped push the body so it wouldn’t sink.

Scientists who observed the behavior said it wasn’t just instinct… it was a clear and prolonged expression of grief.
