The average high school coach gets paid so little that they actually lose money.
There’s a bigger cost. Time away from family and worse, they sacrifice their peace.
This won’t change. as parents, the least we can do, is let good coaches coach and just be fans of the team
S/O to all the HS coaches out there putting in serious work in your program
To the ones running pre-season workouts, having staff meetings/retreats, building relationships with your players, fundraising money to help your program have extra tools or better gear for your players
Cont’d … for the ones running feeder workouts and tryouts and organizing coaches and putting out fires … and teaching a full day of classes
I see you. Keep impacting. Keep growing.
And maybe most importantly as you strive for excellence as a coach & leader, remember your home, your family, your spouse…be great for them too
Has anyone else been legitimately depressed since Charlie Kirk’s death?
I’ve never been affected by the death of someone I didn’t know this way before. My mood has been so low and my thoughts have felt so hopeless.
I really wish I hadn’t seen that awful video.

Coaches don’t go to stores & tell managers how to do their jobs..they don’t go to a tire shop & tell them how to change a tire…they don’t tell barbers how to cut hair either ..why? Cause it’s not their specialty..but EVERY person under the sun tells coaches how to do their jobs!
Correcting isn’t criticizing.
Discipline isn’t demeaning.
Standards aren’t personal.
Great players want to be coached. Great coaches know how to deliver it.

Zionsville Forward @G_Roberts_2027 had a nice July with @IndyMagic . Grace is a physical forward that does all of the little things to help her team compete
Had a transfer tell me her former head coach never got in the gym with her to do a an individual skill workout. Don’t criticize all transfers. Some just want investment.
Your job as a Head Coach is to get the program to it's ceiling. The ceiling is different at each place. This can be a very difficult concept for parents, players, coaches, and administration to understand. Work to get your program to it's individual ceiling.
PLAYERS: Do you want more playing time? Make it impossible for the coach to sit you. Become a better teammate and more positive leader. Find ways to become more valuable to your team. Bring more value to your team. Make your teammates better. Make your team better.
Real coaching isn’t about plays, it’s about people. It’s not just shaping athletes, it’s building leaders. The best coaches teach grit, character, teamwork & accountability. Those lessons don’t fade after the final whistle-they echo through lives, families, & future generations!
I think a problem we have in basketball now is an AAU coaches success is based on how many players they can get to go D1.
It discourages D2 and D3 ball. And let’s remember it’s a privilege to play at any level.
Players - go where you are wanted and what feels like home 🏠 🏀
