Our kindergarten FUNdations parade was a huge success today. I’m so proud of what our youngest students have learned about letters and sounds! @BaileywickWCPSS @MrsMSymonds @BaileywickExplr@wilsonlanguage
This teacher was amazed by the creativity our explorers showed today. We made our own story problems to match subtraction equations. Look carefully for stories about robots losing buttons, hair clips falling out and monkeys being eaten by alligators! @wcpssmathelem
Our Kindergarten scientists are so excited to practice observing and recording how living things grow and change! We observed that our ladybugs are in the larva and the pupa stage.
We are #datadriven in Kindergarten! We noticed that we are having trouble writing numerals 1-10. We added in some practice today and took turns modeling correct number formation. #togetherisbetter in #kindergarten@wcpssmathelem
Today’s math teams worked together to compare the weight of classroom supplies using a new tool - the balance scale! It took some trial and error to master the scales… (not pictured - a student trying to weigh her backpack 😂) #problemSolving in #kindergarten
In our daily Haggerty phonemic awareness practice, we learn familiar nursery rhymes. Today our readers worked in groups to recite each poem and discuss their opinions! Finally, we voted on our favorites - Twinkle Twinkle was the winner, closely followed by Humpty Dumpty!
Today we celebrated 100 acts of kindness with a popcorn party in Kindergarten! This teacher is so #thankful to have a class full of students learning to show kindness and fairness!
@MrsMSymonds @BaileywickES This was such a fun activity! Check out this little learner remaking the number stairs during free play time! This picture can’t show him whispering “1. 2, 3, 4!” Love to see our kids applying what they learn! 🥰
#togetherisbetter in Kindergarten! We work together to problem solve. Love to see students asking each other for help as they read color words, sequence numbers and write numerals! 🥰
We started a new reading unit in Kindergarten! We are reading series by a new (to us) author, Mo Willems @The_Pigeon. To kick off, we explored familiar series. We looked for similarities between various books in each series. Ask your kindergartner about their favorite series!
Last week, we enjoyed our first gallery walk. We each arranged 9 tiles in various formations. Then, we walked around our “art gallery,” comparing the similarities and differences between our creations. Kindergarteners can do amazing things! @wcpssmathelem
We have been having some seasonal fun in Kindergarten. 🎃 We are having a blast whether practicing touching words when we read, matching numbers to groups or retelling stories with our friends! Ask a kindergartener to retell The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything!
This week, the Kindergarten Explorers have been writing narrative fiction. We are experimenting with adding labels their pictures. One writer wasn’t sure how to make a letter correctly - so she pulled out her #fundations notebook for support! 🤓🥹
So much seasonal fun in Kindergarten! We wrapped up our apple investigation with an apple taste test. Then, we made our own applesauce! We loved working together to follow each step in the directions!
We love when an activity helps us develop multiple skills! In our math centers, we build counting fluency, develop fine-motor coordination and practice teamwork! How ‘bout them apples? 🍎🍏🍎
The Kindergarten Explorers have loved reading books about school in our realistic fiction unit. We read “The Day My Mom Came to Kindergarten.” Today we took a language dive into this juicy sentence, acting out and sketching what was happening in the scene!
Thank you to our wonderful guidance counselor, Ms. Hendrix @BaileywickSS - the Kindergarten Explorers loved learning more about their feelings and ways they can help others! You matter!
