Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma says his gov't is building a 5-star @Hyatt Hotel on gov't land.
Hyatt hotels say they are not even involved. Villagers say it's their land.
Assam gov't has arrested, the activist supporting villagers, Pranab Doley under the draconian National Security Act after he got bail in another police case hoisted against him.
When court made scathing remarks in that case giving bail, Assam gov't picked him up under NSA.
NSA permits gov't to detain someone for up to 1 year without charges.
@yield82 and @AnganaCk reveal the NSA orders and the records behind the dubious 5-star hotel case.

Excellent analysis by @EmergingRoy. You have explained the current situation very well. But unfortunately #ModiShah are still living in hubris, have not accepted the reality of enormous problem facing India. Modi thinks his foreign trips & getting cheap medals abroad is a great 1/
Across ideologies, the turn towards supporting mercantilism, import substitution led industrial policy will become a major obstacle to fighting climate change. Without much more trade with China and Southeast Asia, any climate response will be mostly unserious.
“Kanpur Dehat is where I have eaten the best bater of my life, one that Advocate Sahib Chandra ji cooked for us, while telling us warm, detailed stories of Kayasth culinary culture.”
Delightful piece by @historywali — on all the amazing food in UP apart from
edible oil :)
This garment manf factory of Tomar ji’s family was inaugurated two days before the EU deal was announced and apparel duty cuts are a key part of the deal
This is the new ropeway made at the cost of Rs 815 crore in Banaras. Hawa ka jhonka is making it swivel so badly. Total distance of ropeway is 3.85kms and Imagine the condition of people travelling in it. You will be dying every minute out of fear.

The Supreme Court of India has acted in the MOST CRUEL manner in the bail plea of Umar Khalid. It has not just rejected his plea, but also, effectively, RESTRICTED him from applying for bail for the next ONE YEAR! What a terrible, terrible day for democracy.
SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!
I am struggling to wrap my head around this. How did a factory that poisoned 350,000 people in Italy and sent its executives to prison for 141 years get a second life in India?
This is the story of a “toxic hand-me-down" thats unfolding right now in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra.
In 2018, the Miteni plant in Italy was shut down. It had leaked "Forever Chemicals" (PFAS) into the groundwater for decades. The result? Kidney cancer, heart disease, and thousands of excess deaths. It was an environmental crime so bad that the Italian courts actually held the bosses accountable.
But instead of being scrapped, the plant was bought, dismantled, and shipped in containers to Mumbai.
By early 2025, it became fully operational in the Lote Parshuram industrial area.
Here’s why this is terrifying:
1. No Rules: India doesn't even have PFAS regulations yet. We are basically a "wild west" for chemicals that stay in your blood and soil forever.
2. Infrastructure Gaps: In rural Maharashtra, power cuts are frequent. When the power goes out, the treatment plants stop, and toxic waste gets dumped directly into the streams that feed the Vashishti and Jagbudi rivers.
3. The Western Ghats: We are doing this in the heart of one of the world's most sensitive ecosystems.
It feels like we’re being used as a dumping ground for a business model that was literally ruled a crime in Europe.
Why are we importing equipment that was deemed too poisonous for Italians? Who is looking out for the 25,000 workers and the families living in Ratnagiri?
We need to talk about this before "Forever Chemicals" become a forever problem for our children.

The BJP is trying hard to claim that the National Herald case was dismissed ‘only’ on a technicality.
But the judgement clearly exposes how the ED, under pressure from Modi and Shah, violated the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to go after the Gandhis by filing an FIR on 30 June 2021, seven years after Subramanian Swamy’s complaint. To its credit, the CBI refused to bow to political pressure.
The relevant parts of the judgment:
Para 218: “the opinion of the law officers at various levels of hierarchy within the Enforcement Directorate between 2014 to 2021 was that no predicate offence was disclosed” and “the consensus within the agency was that the recording of a FIR was not advisable”.
Para 228: “The considered non registration of the ECIR by the ED for seven long years despite a complaint by Dr. Subramanian Swamy... was undoubtedly in step with the CBI which too was cognizant of the complaints by Dr. Swamy, from the year 2014 itself. The two agencies were apparently in consonance. Notably, the CBI has remained equally circumspect till date.”
Para 230: “The CBI was in the know of the allegations made by Dr. Swamy from at least 28.07.2014” yet “decided against recording a FIR (RC) upon these allegations.”
Para 232: “There is no doubt that there existed a long lasting consensus between the CBI and the ED regarding the non advisability of the registration of a FIR by either agency. The deference of the ED to the CBI was, however, abandoned when it went ahead with recording an ECIR relating to money laundering on 30.06.2021 when no FIR (with the CBI or any other LEA) existed in relation to the scheduled offence.”
🚨 The Reporters' Collective @reporters_co is making the 'Gujarat Forests for Adani' papers public.
Do read my colleague @tapasya_umm's thread summaring her investigation and releasing the papers. Including the ones on which we caught the Gujarat govt lying👇.
Shocking! RTI amendments through the back door! SHANTI Bill empowers central government to create new categories of information which will be exempt from disclosure under the RTI Act. This completely destroys the RTI framework. Huge blow to sunshine law! #SaveRTI
Man walks for 29 days on the disgraceful 490 km Mumbai - Goa Highway. Documents all the potholes and inefficiencies. Submits report to Nitin Gadkari. Given that the Minister has done little in 11 years - nothing will happen. But the young man deserves respect for the effort.
