Rev. Liezel de Jager's husband, Werner de Jager, appeared in court today. He is now being charged with premeditated murder as well as fraud.

It is alleged that the motive was financial gain as Werner de Jager was the only beneficiary on two life policies (Momentum and Old Mutual) worth millions of rand.

Rev Liezel de Jager's lifeless body was found by her husband on 21 October 2021 with strangle marks around her neck. Werner de Jager was arrested on 24 November 2023, in Bloemfontein.
