"We are going around the world propping ourselves up as the font of democracy. We are going around the world propping Israel up as the only democracy in the Middle East. This is a deep, deep fiction."

Incredible reporting from @clarissaward, showing the reality inside of Gaza. Worth a watch if you get a moment. There are also journalists inside Gaza that have been continuously reporting on what’s happening there, many have died in the process.
A U.S. criminal indictment, unsealed today, has unleashed an unprecedented flood of details about an alleged plot connected to the Indian government to carry out multiple assassinations in North America. https://t.co/H2j5LFH5Y0 .
Journalists at Bell Media were told not to use the word "Palestine" and not to cover rallies calling for a ceasefire.
The Bell conglomerate runs CTV and CP24—and its own employees say its coverage is distorting the truth about Israel's violence in Gaza.

I didn't know a lot of the grim details outlined in this @vox piece on Israel's mass-detention of #Palestinians: Many of those held are guilty of no crime, some subjected to torture, few given real legal recourse.
You probably didn't either.
You should:

Wow. The “I love Hamas stickers” that were found on the University of British Columbia’s campus were actually created by someone working for Hillel who was trying to turn public opinion against pro-Palestine activists.
Information warfare. It’s real. It’s here.
“Now we’re supposed to be in the safe area, but you can hear the bombs behind us. All of our houses are bombed. Nothing is left.” Hear these desperate voices from Gaza, as @SalmaCNN reports.
I received an invite from the Biden administration for a Diwali event being held by the VP on nov 8. I decline any invitation from an institution that supports the collective punishment of a trapped civilian population—50% of whom are children.
A Palestinian American family is mourning 42 relatives killed in a single day in Gaza. The deceased range in age from three months to 77. https://t.co/oiyOC8cjnH
I thought it was weird to fact-check a comedian--but I had no idea how WEIRD it really was. New piece @salon on the fact-checker who ignored the facts.

🔴 RSF releases the findings of its investigation into the death of @Reuters reporter Issam Abdallah in Lebanon, on the border with Israel: even though Abdallah and his colleagues were clearly identifiable as journalists, their vehicle was deliberately targeted. 👇
So many press freedom orgs and people stood with me to condemn Jamal Khashoggi’s murder by Saudi Arabia— talking about need for safety for journalists, especially in the Middle East.
Silent about the communications blackout and killings of journalists in Gaza.
Truly shameful.
It’s been shocking to see
the lack of historical context provided in too many stories about the #Israel- #Palestine conflict. As journalism educators we need to prepare our students to tell critical stories. They need to be studying more history/philosophy/political theory.
Journalism that’s courageous, consistent and contextualized—the clarifying, exponential power of all of those things together—not one or two of them—would’ve long ago shown and explained how the status quo in Israel & Palestine eviscerates conditions for peace. Not obfuscated it.
It’s times like these—where there is an absolute bloodlust for more punishment, more cruelty—where the need for responsible, accurate, humanizing, unflinching journalism has the most crucial role. A big part of why we’re here today is because we have failed at this for decades.
