From Elrond to Supernova: MultiversX, the Art of Not Waiting
Blockchains have a weird habit: they promise the future, then make you wait for it. @MultiversX has been obsessing over one thing for years: that “magic moment” where a transaction feels instant. Not “instant-ish,” not “wait for confirmations,” not “check back later,” but tap → done.
This is the story of how Elrond turned into MultiversX… and why Supernova is basically the network saying: we’re done apologizing for latency.
TL; DR (for people with validator nodes to babysit 😊)
• Elrond nailed the base layer: Adaptive State Sharding + SPoS for speed + scale.
• 2022 rebrand wasn’t fluff: it shifted focus from “fast chain” to “full-stack ecosystem.”
• Andromeda (v1.9.6) removed confirmation blocks and cut cross-shard paths from 6 to 3 blocks.
• Supernova aims at 0.6s blocks, sub-second finality, 100k+ TPS, and cross-shard atomic composability (the “it behaves like one chain” moment).
• Tokenomics shifted hard: tail inflation with decay, 90% base fees to builders, 10% burned, and 40% of emissions conditional on growth KPIs.

Chapter 1: The Original Sin - Scalability (2018–2022)
Back in the Elrond days, the pitch was blunt: early blockchains were bottlenecks. One global state, one global traffic jam. So, the architecture went in a direction that actually makes engineering sense:
Adaptive State Sharding = “More lanes, not bigger engines”
Instead of forcing everything through one pipeline, the network splits work into shards (parallel processing). The key trick: it’s adaptive > shards can merge/split depending on load. That’s how you go from “a chain” to “a system that scales with nodes.” And yes, the famous 263,000 TPS testnet peak is part of the lore.
Secure Proof of Stake (SPoS) = “Fast consensus without setting the planet on fire”
SPoS is basically PoS tuned for speed: validator selection randomness + stake + performance, and consensus designed to reach finality quickly.
The result: Elrond mainnet launched July 30, 2020, and the machine started shipping.
The EGLD redenomination = “Economics is psychology wearing a suit”
The swap from ERD to EGLD at 1,000:1 wasn’t just a unit conversion. It was positioning: fewer units, “store of value” narrative, fixed cap vibes. Then the product layer came: smart contracts, wallet, DEX. The chain stopped being a whitepaper and started being a place where things happen.

Chapter 2: 2022 - The Pivot That Actually Matters (MultiversX)
By late 2022, the core tech was solid. The bigger question became: speed for what? At xDay (Paris), Elrond rebranded to MultiversX and the message changed from “we’re a fast L1” to “we’re building the stack for real apps: fintech + identity + metaverse + AI.”
The suite got reorganized into something coherent:
• Maiar Wallet → @xPortalApp (super-app: crypto, fiat, NFTs, identity)
• Maiar Exchange → @xExchangeApp (DEX core)
• New pillars: xFabric, xWorlds (modules + world-building layer)

Activation was scheduled/anticipated for May 28, 2025. This is important because Supernova isn’t happening in a vacuum. Andromeda is the groundwork that makes the next step viable.

Chapter 4: Supernova - “One Chain” Feel, Sharded Under the Hood
Supernova is where MultiversX tries to hit the centralized-standard user expectation: instant.
Targets being communicated:
• 0.6s blocks (from 6s → 0.6s, 10x faster)
• sub-second finality
• 100k+ TPS scale
• and the spicy one…
Cross-shard atomic composability = the real boss fight
Sharding is awesome until you want contracts on different shards to interact without turning everything into asynchronous spaghetti. Atomic composability says: cross-shard contract calls succeed or fail as one unit. For developers, that’s basically: “the whole network behaves like one coherent execution environment.” If they deliver that, it’s a legit step-change for DeFi complexity and real-time apps.
Battle of Nodes = “break it before mainnet does”
They didn’t just announce it they launched a pressure cooker: Battle of Nodes, $100,000 prize pool, multiple tracks, shadow fork testing aimed at real-world failure modes. Supernova was initially framed for late 2025 with a phased rollout into Q1 2026. It looks like things are lining up for it to kick off soon. Here’s where things get adult. MultiversX moved away from “fixed cap forever” purity and toward something that can fund security over decades: tail inflation with decay.

• Annual decay logic
• A long-term floor (minimum) of 2.0%
Then the flywheel mechanics:
Builders get paid (like, actually paid)
• 90% of base transaction fees go to smart contract authors
• 10% burned (deflation pressure tied to usage)
Emissions become conditional (this is the clever part)
Of the “theoretical” new issuance:
• ~60% is guaranteed buckets (staking + sustainability)
• 40% only unlocks if growth KPIs are met
Low growth → emissions stay locked → scarcity preserved
High growth → unlock more fuel → accelerate ecosystem
So EGLD becomes less “passive asset” and more network bond: security + incentives + utility loop.

📌 Imaginează-ți că ai un restaurant foarte popular, unde sute de oameni vin zilnic să comande mâncare. Dacă doar un singur bucătar ar găti pentru toți, comenzile ar dura foarte mult. Soluția?
