"What I learned from Hanadi was that one can come very near another people’s wound without trying to claim it as one’s own. There is an ethics in that nearness — a form of love, too." -@AlaaQAlQaisi

Christine Hovhan and Gata Band’s Garegin Araqelyan perform a beautiful rendition of “Kanchum Em Ari Ari." This classic Armenian song is rooted in Armenian folk tradition and emotion 🇦🇲🎶
“Kanchum Em, Ari Ari” (“I’m calling, come here”) is a beloved Armenian folk song. It is believed to come from the Hemshin community. It’s an emotional, slow song about unreturned love and longing, calling for someone to come back, with well-known versions by Vigen Hovsepyan, Arabo Ispiryan, and Apo Sahagian.
Hovhan wears pieces of traditional Armenian taraz, the national dress known for its layered garments, intricate embroidery, and regional variations that reflect identity and centuries of cultural history.
